Plump lips – one of the indicators of a woman's attractiveness, and therefore the demand for aesthetic correction of this zone is especially high. However, to ensure natural and harmonious results of the procedures, the practitioner must approach the work creatively and at the same time with perfect technical skill.
How to do it, told Dr. Steven Harris. In this article estet-portal.com we will talk about the technique of non-surgical lifting, as well as the role of facial reshaping in creating perfect lips.
How facial reshaping affects the appearance of lips
In the assessment phase, it is important to consider the face as a whole and apply a global approach to its correction, since all areas of the face are interconnected.
Obtaining a harmonious and aesthetically attractive result of lip correction is possible when working with adjacent areas. It is important to remember that malocclusion can negatively affect the shape of the lips, so it is important to pay attention to this aspect at the assessment stage.
Creating attractive upper lip curves: Cupid's arch correction with HA fillers
As part of the work with the lips, it is necessary to first, as necessary, correct the surrounding areas, which will provide the so-called indirect lip beautification. Only then should you proceed with direct beautification of the lips in order to create a more natural and harmonious result.
Restoration of the shape of the face with fillers includes deep injection of preparations into the periosteum in the forehead, temples, lateral part of the cheeks, jaw angle and chin.
An integral part of the recovery process is myomodulation – a change in muscle activity as a result of the introduction of a filler into the space adjacent to it. With the deep introduction of the filler under the muscles that raise or lower certain structures in the middle or lower part of the face, there is a cumulative effect of tissue lifting, including the lips. This effect helps to restore the ideal shape of the face.
In addition to myomodulation, the introduction of a filler into the nasolabial folds at the level of the piriform fossa provides a lifting of the upper lip; while a more superficial injection of the drug into the labiomental fold has a similar lifting effect on the lower lip.
After working with the face in general and adjacent structures in particular, they begin to evaluate the shape and size of the lips. The ideal size of the lips depends on the size and structural features of the face, in particular the eyes. The larger the eyes, the more harmoniously large lips will look, while on a face with small eyes they will seem out of place.

As for the shape of the lips, it is important to remember that men's lips are wider and flatter, while women's – full and curved, with a more pronounced Cupid's arch (Fig. 2).
Non-surgical lip lift technique with fillers: features and results of application
Non-Surgical Lip Lift (NLL) – approach to lip augmentation with dermal fillers that allows for an attractive and natural result in a safe way. The technique is based on the natural anatomical features of the lips, including their tubercles (Fig. 4). A characteristic feature of the approach is soft augmentation and an increase in the height of the lips due to filler injections not into the very border of the red border, but slightly lower.
Important aspects of lip augmentation: not only size matters
Fillers exclusively based on hyaluronic acid are used for work. In this case, the ideal drug should be "soft"; and cohesive, behave predictably and cause minimal swelling.
The non-surgical lip lift technique includes ten steps, but their number and sequence varies from patient to patient (Fig. 5). As a standard, 0.5-1 ml of the drug is used for correction, approximately 0.05-0.1 ml at each stage. At all stages, injections are performed slowly and superficially to avoid damage to the superior and inferior labial arteries (Fig. 5).
To avoid contouring of the filler, the bevel of the needle should be pointed inward during insertion. However, when injected below the vermilion border, it must be directed outward to raise the border.
Curved line filler injection technique (steps 3 and 8) – a modification of the linear technique, the purpose of which is to emphasize the curve of the upper lip. Steps 1, 4 and 5 focus on augmenting the bumps to create the effect of plump lips.
Step by step:
1. Bolus injection of filler into the right inferior tubercle.
2. Linear injection of the drug over the border of the red border of the lips.
3. Injection along a curved line under the border of the red border.
4. Linear insertion along the right side of Cupid's arch (starting from the middle tubercle).
5. Bolus injection of filler into the right superior tubercle.
6. Bolus injection of the drug in the lower left tubercle.
7. Linear product injection along the border of the red border.
8. The introduction of the drug along a curved line under the border of the red border.
9. Linear filler injection along the left side of Cupid's arch (starting from the middle tubercle).
10. Bolus injection of the drug into the left superior tubercle.
Another feature of the NLG technique is the "displacement of the cusps", that is, their slight increase in the desired direction of displacement, to create the ideal shape of the lips. Thus, injections into the medial part "shift" tubercles in the direction of the midline (narrowing the corresponding section of the lips), while the introduction of the filler into the lateral parts "displaces" them in the opposite direction (expanding the corresponding section). With this approach, one or more tubercles can be visually moved in different planes and directions (Fig. 6).
Lip contouring: technique and possible complications
Non-surgical facelift– A relatively safe and effective technique that aims to gently augment the natural anatomy of the lips. Clarity of contours, shape, symmetry and proportions – parameters that can be adjusted using the presented technique to obtain a natural result and ensure a high degree of patient satisfaction.
