Интимное омоложение: процедура увеличения больших половых губ

Aesthetic Gynecology — dynamic and developing industry in aesthetic medicine and its real boom is expected in the near future. Several factors have contributed to the rise in popularity of this area: in particular, the prevalence of knowledge about the female body, overcoming the barrier of shame when discussing gynecological problems, and easier access to highly qualified specialists who can solve the aesthetic problems of the intimate zone. Intimate rejuvenation is possible in several ways, but this article will focus on the use of hyaluronic acid filler to rejuvenate the labia majora.

Indications for rejuvenation of the labia majora using a filler

The main function of the labia majora is to protect other intimate structures from physical, mechanical and chemical damage. Due to their volume and elasticity, they provide to some extent antimicrobial protection for other structures of the intimate zone, additionally preventing the violation of the natural microflora and mechanical irritation by underwear or other items of clothing.

Large labia provide a stable temperature and lubrication of others structures of the vulva, performing a stabilizing role during intercourse. For this reason, women with labial (vulvovaginal) atrophy often complain of dyspareunia and discomfort or pain during intercourse.

The purpose of the procedure of rejuvenation of the labia majora — improving their appearance, as well as protecting the genitals by reducing the risk of irritation and infections. HA filler moisturizes the skin and mucous membranes, further rejuvenating the treated area, stimulating the work of fibroblasts to produce collagen.

HA filler injections are recommended for:  Loss of volume and firmness of the labia majora caused by a number of factors, which include not only their hypertrophy, atrophy, or asymmetry, but also mucosal atrophy and associated symptoms (for example, itching, burning, or a feeling of tightness of the skin. These can develop due to - for childbirth, vulvar fibroma, vulvitis or just aging.

However, it should be noted that a change in body weight is not always directly related to the need for augmentation in the area of the labia majora using HA. But experts note that patients with BMI & nbsp; below 18.5 are more prone to atrophy of the labia majora, because their fat content is very low.
•    Indications such as: traumatic childbirth, surgery, aging, rapid weight loss or intense exercise,  in which the labia majora cannot adequately protect other structures of the intimate zone.

The procedure is especially relevant after traumatic childbirth, during which the labia majora were damaged and even deep scars could remain.
The HA filling of the labia majora is aimed at restoring their natural appearance and firmness.

Intimate rejuvenation reduces the effects of age-related changes

Rejuvenation of the labia majora with HA can be used to correct age-related changes, especially during menopause, often associated with a decrease in the number of adipocytes in the genital area. The effectiveness of HA-based fillers for age-related changes in the labia majora is due to the fact that they reduce the effects of tissue atrophy, resulting in improved sexual comfort.

As we know, the natural content of HA in the body decreases with age, which leads to insufficient hydration of the skin, as a result of which the structure of collagen and elastin is disturbed. Many women with dyspareunia often experience tissue dehydration, mucosal dryness, and cell degeneration.

In addition, deterioration in estrogen production during the perimenopausal period reduces fibroblast activity, causing atrophy of the dermis. With age, the skin (also in the vulvovaginal area) loses its former volume and shape.
Loss of firmness and dehydration can lead to injury or infections.

Vulvaginal dryness — a common complaint among premenopausal women, especially those not using hormone replacement therapy. This is another contributing factor to vulvovaginal atrophy.

Dryness is directly related to the loss of subcutaneous adipose tissue and atrophy of the labia majora.

Besides premenopausal and during the menopausal period, atrophy of the labia majora can be provoked by hormonal dysfunction, vaginal dryness, an unbalanced or very active lifestyle, as well as certain medications. Vulvovaginal dryness is a common complaint in perimenopausal patients, especially those not using hormone replacement therapy.

HA stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen — structural protein of human skin. This strengthens the skin frame, provides its rejuvenation and improves elasticity. Guaranteeing a long-term increase in volume and correction of the shape of the treated structures, HA-based fillers are aimed at effective enlargement and rejuvenation of the labia majora. The HA injection expands the labia sufficiently to cover the labia minora.

Intimate rejuvenation restores firmness and elasticity to the skin along with increased production of vulvovaginal lubrication, reduced risk of injury and more effective protection against infection, and improved aesthetic appearance.

This, in turn, affects the psychological comfort of a woman, her acceptance of her body, which is reflected in improved sexual satisfaction.

Intimate rejuvenation: the subtleties of the procedure of rejuvenation of the labia majora

Despite its minimally invasive nature, this procedure must be preceded by a thorough medical examination in order to identify and rule out possible contraindications. These include:

  • pregnancy (any trimester);
  • breastfeeding;
  • active inflammation at the injection site;
  • malignant neoplasms;
  • mental disorders;
  • severe coagulation disorder;
  • autoimmune diseases;
  • allergic reactions to HA.

The procedure involves injecting a HA-based filler into the subcutaneous tissue of the labia majora by injection using a small diameter cannula. The right instruments are essential as only a blunt cannula reduces the risk  tissue damage, blood vessels and helps prevent further complications. It is also important to determine the location of blood vessels and nerves before starting treatment.

The first step involves thoroughly disinfecting and anesthetizing the area. Local anesthesia is used with approximately 5 ml of 2% lidocaine injected along the labia majora. The procedure is repeated in the same way on both labia. A 16G needle is used to access the labia.

A 22G cannula is then used to inject the filler into the top of the labia majora.
Very superficial subcutaneous injection is performed to achieve tissue augmentation or improve the contour of the labia majora. To correct tissue volume, the filler should be injected a little deeper. The depth of injection plays an important role.

Specialists recommend a depth of 5 mm, as access to too deep structures can lead to the introduction of filler into the adipose tissue and worsen the result of the procedure.

Inject 1-3 ml of cross-linked HA on each side. Currently, the maximum available concentration of HA fillers intended for female genital enlargement is 28 mg. It is her specialists who propose to use it for treatment.

If filler is injected inappropriately and in excessive amounts, overcorrection may occur. Asymmetric injection can lead to labial asymmetry. However, it is reversible with the help of hyaluronidase.
The procedure lasts 15-30 minutes, after which it is not required  recovery period: the patient can return to their usual lifestyle immediately after the procedure.

Intimate rejuvenation with HA fillers can be repeated after six months, but experts recommend a 12-18 month interval between individual treatments.

Intimate rejuvenation is now possible both surgically and non-surgically. Injection techniques for the correction of the labia majora are performed using HA-based fillers. The advantages of this method of correction are its minimal invasiveness, ease of implementation of the procedure and the absence of a recovery period. Thanks to HA-based fillers, it became possible to significantly improve the quality of the sexual life of patients and their psychological comfort.

Intimate rejuvenation can also solve important problems such as pain during intercourse or sexual dysfunction, which negatively affect the physical and mental well-being of patients. Enlargement of the labia majora  with the use of HA filler improves the aesthetic appearance of the intimate parts of the body, provides a long-term effect of atrophy correction and restores the level of skin hydration.
