Specialists believe that the procedure, which today is referred to as chemical peels, has a long history of application and extensive practice of experimenting with various types of acids. While our ancestors experimented mainly with acids from lemons, grapes, and other organic sources, contemporaries are looking for more effective compounds that can exfoliate cells at deep levels of the skin. So, median peeling began to be carried out using resorcinol, salicylic and trichloroacetic acids in various concentrations and combinations, which showed a good anti-aging effect.
When is a medium facial peel recommended
At first, median peeling had no aesthetic application. The first scientific works, which mentioned procedures using formulations containing salicylic or trichloroacetic acid, described the success of doctors in the fight against & nbsp; scars and some other dermatological problems. And only in the second half of the 20th century, when instrumental methods appeared that made it possible to assess the morphological changes in the skin after median peeling, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) began to be widely used in cosmetology. There are a lot of scientific works devoted to the search for the optimal composition for medium peeling using TCA and other acids.
The essence of the median peeling process is the application of a controlled burn, after which the cells of the middle layers are exfoliated at the level of the epidermis. This type of peeling can be recommended for the following indications:
- small wrinkles,
- pigment spots (freckles, chloasma),
- signs of skin photoaging.
Middle peeling can promote a lifting effect, brighten the skin, improve microcirculation in the skin, regulate sebum.
Peculiarities of prescribing and conducting median peeling
The patient should know that median peeling will not be a panacea and will not give eternal youth. It will not eliminate deep and mimic wrinkles, will not cope with scars and post-acne scars at a time, will not eliminate acne, but will only temporarily narrow pores. Median peeling helps fight pigmentation, but if there is a tendency to form pigment spots or provoking factors such as active sun or hormonal disruptions arise, then hyperpigmentation will return, and in the same or in other places. In this regard, the median peeling has a seasonality of the – after September and not later than March. But even at this time, the patient will have to use sunscreen after peeling.
Specific manifestations of median peeling – the formation of the so-called frost effect, when the entire surface of the skin after applying the composition is covered with a continuous white film of denatured proteins. Then a crust forms on the surface of the skin, which lasts about 10 days. It is highly not recommended to tear it off on your own in order to avoid the risk of scarring. Then the crusts peel off, but the erythema on the face after the median peeling persists for about three more weeks – depending on the individual properties of the organism.
Milia or small white cysts can become complications of median peeling – in the first month after the procedure, which disappear on their own or are corrected with a light microcrystalline peeling. Perhaps the development of purulent pustules, which are stopped by the local application of an antibacterial agent. If the patient has spider veins on the face, then within a few months they will appear brighter than usual due to the general lightening of the skin.
It is worth noting that, despite the annual emergence of new cosmetic and hardware methods of influencing the skin, median peeling remains popular, including due to new improved formulations that improve the safety of the procedure and its effectiveness. In some cases, a combination of medium peeling with some types of plastic surgery gives a good effect.
