Abdominoplasty is not a popular plastic surgery. But this is more likely from ignorance of patients about it, rather than from its lack of demand. Usually, visitors to a cosmetic clinic believe that plastic surgery deals with facial problems. If it comes to the figure, then everyone remembers liposuction, which helps to achieve a slender silhouette. But at the same time, many patients are surprised that their problems with a sagging abdomen, which cannot be removed by diets and sports activities, are easily solved by abdominoplasty.

Which patients are eligible for tummy tuck

Specialists note that problems with abdominal deformities requiring surgical intervention occur equally often in men and women. We are talking about such problems as sagging skin on the anterior abdominal wall after a sharp weight loss, excessive body fat in this area, postpartum sprains in the abdomen and other similar reasons why a sagging stomach cannot be removed either by fasting or exhausting physical exercises. But many patients with such problems are firmly convinced that this cannot be helped. And at the appointment with a plastic surgeon with the question of whether it is possible to somehow reduce the stomach, women come more often than men. Perhaps because it is more important for women to have an attractive appearance and an active social life.

However, there are some indications for recommending abdominoplasty to a patient with a sagging abdomen:

  • excess skin on the anterior abdominal wall after a significant loss of body weight - in this case, there is usually no pronounced fatty deformity, on examination, the excess skin tissue is easily captured by the fingers, the skin is flaccid, atonic, located in longitudinal folds;
  • distended abdomen after childbirth - there is flabby skin on the anterior abdominal wall and overstretching of the musculoaponeurotic layer, the subcutaneous fat layer can be both significant and very thin, the skin is atonic, soft and hangs not in folds, but in chaotic irregularities, as if crumpled;
  • excess fat in the anterior part of the abdomen - is more common for men and is determined by the so-called diver's test, when in an appropriate position there is a significant fat bulge in the middle-lower zone of the abdomen; in this case, the skin is firm and elastic, it is not captured in the fold, because the stomach looks like a swollen hemisphere;
  • deformity of the anterior abdominal wall, defined as a skin-fat apron - skin-fat deformity in the form of one very large skin fold, descending forward and down, covering the groin area, and sometimes even part of the thighs.

Patients with such problems often have serious psychological and nervous disorders, since a sagging belly makes it difficult to have a sexual life, interferes with finding a job and building personal relationships, and prevents a person from normal socialization. Such patients need to be explained that the problem is really not solved by training and diets, but it is completely corrected surgically - and moreover, very effectively.

Important information for the patient about tummy tuck

When discussing tummy tuck with a patient, he should be warned that, firstly, this is a rather traumatic and difficult operation, secondly, after abdominoplasty of the abdomen, a long and noticeable scar will definitely remain, and thirdly, the patient himself must make a decision about the operation and have the right to receive from the doctor any number of consultations that he needs.

Usually, when choosing between a saggy abdomen and the appearance of a scar easily concealed by clothing, patients prefer tummy tuck, but the decision should not be impulsive. The scar can remain not only longitudinal, but also transverse, if, due to the peculiarities of the patient's constitution, it is necessary to make an additional incision down from the navel. The operation is not simple, requiring careful observance of a long postoperative period.

Nevertheless, the effect of abdominoplasty of the abdomen is immediately visible, which cannot but please patients. After a certain time, they can return to everyday life, the results of the operation, subject to the doctor's lifestyle recommendations, remain for life.
