Lifting Mendelssohn: a special philosophy of facial plastic surgery

Plastic surgery, called the Mendelssohn lift, is gaining more and more popularity among patients due to its high efficiency, which is combined with low trauma and gives amazing results that last for a long time. Surgeons working on the Mendelssohn lifting method consider this technology a special philosophy of plasticity, which allows achieving an excellent rejuvenating effect. Our portal has tried to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about this method.

Why is the method called the Mendelssohn lifting and to whom do we owe this surgical technology

Australian doctor and scientist Brian Mendelsohn is said to be the author of the technology. The essence of his technique is based on the features of the anatomical structure of the human face: all tissues on it are arranged in layers, but they are uneven in structure – there are dense and looser ones. In spaces filled with loose tissue, as a rule, there are no large vessels or nerves, which allows the surgeon to work with them without fear. And it is these spaces that eventually suffer from age-related tissue displacements, forming folds and wrinkles in the lower third of the face.

Working with such "empty" space requires impeccable anatomical knowledge from a plastic surgeon in order to correctly find these zones, because you have to work in the spaces between the bones and muscles, moving one after another the tissues displaced by gravity. The work is carried out at the microsurgical level using appropriate equipment.

But if it is possible to penetrate into the mobile spaces of the deep layers of the face and with the help of microsurgical equipment to tighten the descending tissues, fixing them in their original position, the result of the lifting exceeds all expectations.

Some experts call the technique spacelifting, but this is not entirely correct, since only surgeons who have completed a training course directly from Brian Mendelsohn have the right to perform such operations. Holders of the corresponding diploma retain the name of its founder for the methodology, although the scientist himself does not patent the name and generously shares his achievements.

What are the advantages of the Mendelssohn facelift compared to other facelifts

The main advantage of the technique, for which both doctors and patients appreciate it – low trauma combined with a good level of safety. Lifting Mendelssohn does not require a massive detachment of the skin, so the risk of damage to vascular and nerve endings is significantly reduced. During the operation, the surgeon sees all the dangerous branches of the facial nerve in the deeper layers and has the ability to fully control the process, which is not so easy with conventional lifting.

The technique can be combined with other facial procedures and not be afraid of the so-called constriction effect. In addition, low trauma significantly reduces the rehabilitation period after surgery and reduces the risk of complications.

Recovery after plastic surgery using the Mendelssohn lifting method takes from 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the extent of the intervention. But the result is preserved for 10 years or more.

The method is perfectly combined with blepharoplasty, platysmaplasty, at the same time it is possible to carry out plasmolifting to achieve an even more pronounced aesthetic result.

What result can a patient expect after a Mendelssohn lift

Patients greatly appreciate the fact that after the Mendelssohn facelift surgery, there are no cardinal changes in the features or individual characteristics of the face – just a person begins to look 15 years younger. At the same time, the relief of the face improves, the clarity of the oval is restored, excess skin in the neck and chin area disappears, the depth of the nasolabial folds decreases.

The operation is able to cope with rather strong age-related changes, but it can also be recommended as a preventive measure for initial age-related changes, if the patient has indications for this. For example, with a genetic predisposition to the formation of jowls and a swollen contour of the chin, you can not wait until these defects appear in full, but solve the problem earlier.

After the operation, of course, a feeling of discomfort persists, there may be swelling and other side effects. But the advantage of the technique is that after 5-7 days the patient can return to the normal rhythm of life, surprising others with a very rejuvenated appearance.
