Lice are parasites that live on the hairy parts of the human body, while feeding on the blood of their host, giving him a lot of trouble. Head lice and pubic lice are different types of lice. A characteristic feature of pubic lice is the place of parasitism (pubis, perineum, anus, covered with hair), as well as their shape and size. What pubic lice look like, how to recognize their presence and, most importantly, how to get rid of pubic lice - you can find this information in the article prepared for you by Estet-portal.
Pubic lice (Pediculus pubis) differ from head and clothing lice in their smaller size (male - 1 mm, female - 1.5 mm) and rounded shape (similar to crabs). Places of parasitism of lice are mainly areas of the pubis, perineum, anus.
In people with excessive body hair, pubic lice can migrate to the chest, axillary cavities, beard and eyebrows. There they are attached to the skin with pincer-like formations. With the help of their curved legs, parasites cling to the lower parts of neighboring hairs. The pubic lice do not infect the scalp. Small nits are found on the hairs. Pubic lice can be seen with the naked eye near the base of the hair as greyish-brown dots the size of a hairpin head.
Infection with pubic lice mainly occurs through sexual contact, but in exceptional cases it can occur when visiting public baths or through bed. With pubic lice on the skin due to scratching and the use of irritants and ointments, eczematization may occasionally occur.
Clinic
Pubic lice with their bites cause severe itching, which causes the formation of excoriations, bloody crusts. On the sites of lice bites on the skin of the abdomen, inner thighs, lateral surfaces of the chest, blue or blue spots appear in the form of a path, up to 1 cm in diameter, round or oval in shape. The appearance of spots is the result of mixing the blood of the patient and the saliva of the lice during bites. Bluish spots do not disappear during diascopy, which is an important sign in the differential diagnosis with roseolous syphilis and typhoid rash.
Diagnosis of pubic lice
Lice is diagnosed based on the detection of parasites and nits on the skin of the abdomen, inner thighs, lateral surfaces of the chest, as well as blue spots at the sites of lice bites.
Pubic lice treatment
The treatment of pubic lice consists in the fact that the affected areas are shaved off and the patient is rubbed with 33% sulfuric ointment, 20% naftalan ointment or 25% benzyl benzoate emulsion for the next three to four days, after which the patient should wash with soap and change clothes.
