The shape of the eyebrows and their location on the face are very important for the perception of a person, for getting a first impression of him. Some from birth get heavy overhanging eyebrows, creating an opinion about their owner as a stern and gloomy person, although his character probably does not depend on this feature of appearance. Age-related changes, as a rule, also pull the eyebrows down, so a brow lift can be one of the first stages of a rejuvenating program, giving the patient an open young look.
When is a brow lift appropriate and what does it achieve
Brow lift is most often performed on patients a little after the age of thirty years – when there are no obvious age-related changes in the skin of the face yet, but the outer corners of the eyebrows begin to fall under the influence of gravitational ptosis, and the eyebrows themselves become lower, provoking the appearance of heavier upper eyelids, lowering of the corners of the eyes and the appearance of the first small "crow's feet". It also happens that the patient is dissatisfied with the aesthetic appearance of his eyebrows – their bend or characteristic severe overhang. In these cases, a brow lift may be recommended. This plastic surgery prevents:
- ptosis of the eyebrows and upper eyelids,
- drooping of the outer corners of the eyes,
- formation of early wrinkles in the area of the bridge of the nose and corners of the eyes.
The operation is performed endoscopically, does not require hospitalization and pleases patients with a short rehabilitation period.
Techniques used for brow lift
Just the beginning of age-related changes in the face, including the shape of the eyebrows, can be easily corrected with gentle methods that give a lasting and long-term effect.
When it is necessary to eliminate only local age-related changes or correct an aesthetically unattractive shape of the eyebrows, plastic surgery has the following corrective techniques.
Supra-brow lifting. The skin incision is made along the upper border of the eyebrow, the skin is tightened and fixed. After the operation, a scar remains, which follows the contour of the eyebrow. As a result, eyebrows and upper eyelids are raised, crow's feet are smoothed out. The operation requires great skill of the surgeon, since many important vascular and nerve endings pass in this area.
Brow lift through transpalpebral approach. In this case, the brow lift is performed through an incision in the crease of the upper eyelid. The postoperative scar with such a cut is practically invisible. The muscles of the eyebrow are notched, their tension weakens, and the eyebrow rises. From this access, it is convenient to excise, if necessary, excess adipose tissue, lift hanging eyelids.
Temporal brow lift. The incisions are made in the scalp, stepping back slightly from the border of hair growth. This is one of the most effective anti-aging methods, as it allows you to exfoliate and tighten the tissues, fixing them in the desired position. At the same time, wrinkles in the corners of the eyes are straightened, not only the eyebrows are raised, but also the eyelids, the corners of the eyes, even the top of the cheek is tightened. Excess skin and fat are excised.
Eyebrow lifting with the use of surgical threads. Threads with teeth are used that tighten and fix sagging skin in the eyebrow area. The threads are fixed in tissues located above the eyebrows. Endotins may be used, especially if the risk of postoperative suture strain must be avoided.
If necessary, the surgeon can combine methods, combine them with botulinum toxin injections, and other procedures.
The recovery period after endoscopic brow lift surgery is approximately one week, and the results last for years, provided that the doctor's recommendations regarding lifestyle and proper skin care are followed.
