Methods of modern hair transplantation
To combat androgenetic alopecia, drug therapy is often used to slow or stop hair loss. But no medicine will help restore already lost hair. In this case, modern transplantology comes to the rescue. Her main methods are aimed at the redistribution of hair genetically resistant to hair loss from the back of the head and the sides of the head to bald areas. Taras Denishchuk, Hair Transplantation Specialist, ANA-COSMO Clinic talks about the basic principles and features of hair transplantation using modern methods.

Patchwork technique (strip method, FUT)
This method is indicated for people with androgenetic, cicatricial, traction alopecia. From 2000 to 8000 hairs can be transplanted in one operation. The survival rate of transplanted hair is 98-99%.
The high survival rate of grafts (a graft is a microtransplant containing from 1 to 4 hair follicles) and the ability to transplant a large amount of hair in one procedure make the patchwork technique "golden" standard.
When using the strip method, a piece of skin with hair is taken from the back of the head. The choice of the donor zone is due to the fact that the hair from the back of the head is the strongest and never falls out. After a piece of skin with hair is taken, the wound is sutured and, thanks to modern methods of wound closure, the scar will not be visible to the naked eye. In medicine, there is also such a thing as scalp mobility. From a person with good scalp mobility, a large and wide flap can be taken, on which there will be a lot of hair. In a person with low mobility, accordingly, this procedure will be problematic, and you will have to "gain" hair by other methods.
The main stages of the hair transplant operation
At the beginning of the operation, anesthesia is performed on the donor area (where the hair will be taken from) and the recipient area (where the hair will be transplanted). A flap is cut from the back of the head, which is transferred to the cutters for preparation. Usually it is nurses who cut this flap into neat, small hairs so that the hair follicle is covered with a fat sac. Then the resulting material is processed according to a special technique and placed on gauze napkins. At this time, the surgeon stitches the wound on the donor area and, using a special tool, makes holes in the recipient area, where the prepared hairs will then be inserted. The patient at this time, as a rule, watches a movie or communicates with the operating team. At the end of the cutting, the surgeon, together with the team, begins to plant the hairs in the holes prepared by the surgeon.<
The operation itself takes from 2 to 7 hours depending on the volume of transplanted hair and the number of professional cutters.Post-operative period
After a hair transplant, you can immediately go home. The first night after transplantation is the most critical. The head must be protected from blows and scratching - this can provoke bleeding. You must refrain from drinking alcohol, coffee, smoking, hot baths, showers, washing your hair.
Redness in the area of hair transplant disappears on the second day. Small wounds, 1 mm in size, are tightened and covered with a crust, which begins to fall off on the fifth day (for 50% it begins to fall off already on the third day). On the seventh day after the operation, you can wash your hair with shampoo.
The transplanted bulb takes root in an average of 5-7 days. After one to three weeks, she begins to shed the hair. After 6-8 months, active hair growth begins in the area where they were transplanted. After 8-12 months, it is already possible to evaluate the result of transplantation.
Long hair transplant method
The appearance of the long hair transplant method is somewhat of a sensation. In Ukraine, it is practiced only in the ANA-COSMO clinic.
This method is registered with the International Association of Transplantologists. Its founder is Marcelo Pichon, who began to carry out such operations in 2004. Initially, long hair transplantation was skeptical, as the transplanted long hair fell out during the first or second month after the operation, as with conventional transplantation, and then after 3-4 months, it began to grow again. It turned out that the opportunity to see the result immediately after the operation is a very important psychological moment for patients, which makes this method very popular.
In fact, long hair transplantation is the same patchwork method only using the patient's long hair. This operation requires great scrupulousness from the surgeon and from the cutters, as it is much more difficult to work with long hair than with short hair.
FUE method (scarless or sutureless method)
The scarless method is suitable for baldness grades 1-3 according to the Norwood scale or local targets: eyebrows, eyelashes, small scars, when a small number of grafts are needed. It can be used to transplant up to 3,000 grafts. On average, 150-400 grafts are needed for one eyebrow,
The scarless method was preceded by the punch method or the punch method. With the help of a punch (a kind of tube), rounded cylinders with a diameter of 5 mm were removed from the scalp. In one such island there were 10-15 hairs. As it turned out, the larger the area of the graft, the worse it took root. As a result, this method gave an effect that was far from the aesthetic effect that patients were striving for.
The guarantee of the result in this method is the same as in the patchwork method - 98-99%.
BHT Method (body hair transplantation)
Body hair transplant (BHT – method) – This is an innovative method of hair transplantation from donor areas of the body (from the arms, back, chest, pubis, chin) in cases where the patient's scalp is inactive, and there is not enough donor material on the back of the head. In fact, this is a seamless FUE method of hair transplantation, when hair grafts are extracted from the body one by one.
