Старение рук: влияющие факторы, клинические признаки и подходы к коррекции

When drawing up a plan for daily care or rejuvenation, the lion's share of attention, as a rule, is paid to the face and neck areas. At the same time, hands can no less eloquently betray age: on the thin and fragile skin of the back of the hand, there are a small number of sebaceous glands that are responsible for maintaining the natural protective film of the skin.

Pronounced signs of aging of the hands can negate all attempts to hide age by caring only for the face. Therefore, Dr. Catherine de Goursac believes that the causes and main signs of aging on the back of the palms – important issues to focus on.

In this article on estet-portal.com read about the main signs of hand aging, as well as effective methods of hand skin rejuvenation.

At what age do the first pronounced signs of hand aging appear

At about age 40 and even earlier, solar lentigo (a cosmetic defect also called brown, sun or senile spots) gradually begins to appear on the hands. They may cover the entire dorsal surface of the hands and fingers.

The number of spots depends on the intensity and duration of exposure to negative factors. In addition, the skin of the back surface of the palms and fingers rapidly loses moisture, and the loss of tone becomes the cause of flabbiness of the skin.

At the age of about 50 years the venous network is more and more visible through the skin of the hands, and the tendons rise more and more above its surface. As the interosseous muscles contract, the amount of subcutaneous fat decreases and the underlying bony structures become visible. This phenomenon of skeletonization gradually gives the arms a bony and skinny appearance.

Signs of aging hands disturb both women and men. Rejuvenation requests come predominantly from women, but the percentage of male clients is growing every year.

Clinical signs of hand aging:

  • dark spots on the back of the hand and fingers;
  • wrinkles on the surface of the skin caused by tissue thinning;
  • skeletonization of the back of the hand;
  • translucent veinsna.

Hand aging: risk factors and causes

Skin Aging – a consequence of the simultaneous impact of internal and external processes. These include:

1. age-related internal aging – an inevitable process determined genetically and hormonally (decrease in estrogen during menopause);

2. lifestyle;

3. a lot of negative environmental factors that affect the skin of the hands every day and accelerate the aging process:

  • ultraviolet radiation (both natural and artificial) that causes photoaging;
  • climatic and temperature features: wind, cold and heat;
  • mechanical action: friction, pressure, repeated impacts;
  • chemicals and toxic substances: tobacco, cleaning products, polluted air;
  • germs: bacteria from various types of contaminated surfaces;
  • high calcium hard water that washes out and weakens the protective skin barier.

How to slow down hand aging: general recommendations

To reduce the influence of external factors that accelerate the aging process of the hands, the author recommends to his patients:

  • avoid sun exposure and apply special sunscreen before going outside, even in winter;
  • moisturize your hands regularly with products containing moisturizing and softening ingredients before going to bed, as sleep is the most productive time for skin regeneration;
  • wear protective gloves to avoid contact with too cold or hot water, household chemicals and other potentially aggressive substances;
  • wear gloves while walking;
  • wash hands with neutral pH soap or cleansing oil;
  • Limit the use of antibacterial gels containing alcohol, which dries the skinskin.

Initial consultation is required before any anti-age procedure. At this stage, the main goal of the doctor – make sure that the patient meets all the criteria necessary for a successful aesthetic procedure. The doctor carefully collects the patient's medical history and excludes the presence of contraindications to the selected manipulations.

At the end of the consultation, the patient is given written information about the protocol of the procedure and its cost is announced. Of course, it is necessary to obtain a signed written consent from the patient for the correction.

Available rejuvenation techniques can be combined or applied individually, according to the needs of the patient.

There is no single standardized procedure to combat hand aging. Each patient is treated individually, selecting rejuvenation techniques that can provide optimal results in each case.

Several criteria should be taken into account when selecting procedures:

  • skin phototype;
  • number and type of imperfections;
  • stage of aging;
  • possible side effects;
  • Doctor's clinical experience.

Also takes into account patient related factors such as:

  • age;
  • preferences;
  • wait;
  • Cost of the procedure.
