Streptoderma patients are often surprised when a dermatologist advises them to refrain from washing. But the neglect of this advice leads to an increase in the disease – spots on the skin increase significantly in size, and the skin swells along the edges. Another nuisance for such patients – streptoderma increases significantly and can turn into a chronic process if inflamed spots on the skin are constantly injured, including due to contact with tight or synthetic clothing. In addition to providing therapeutic assistance to patients with streptoderma, the doctor must explain to them the lifestyle features of this disease in order for the treatment to be effective.
Features of streptoderma and types of its clinical manifestations
Streptoderma is caused by activated streptococcal microflora and is usually provoked by a weakening of the body due to a decrease in immunity or exacerbation of chronic diseases, in any diseases with impaired local blood circulation and skin metabolism. This infection is transmitted through household contact and can spread very quickly in closed communities.
Initially, there are spots on the skin of a rounded shape of pink color, which are flaky, have irregular outlines and small sizes. These spots on the skin do not cause complaints from patients, since pain and itching are practically absent. After a few days, these spots on the skin are transformed into purulent vesicles.
Depending on the depth of the skin lesion, streptoderma has two forms: with a milder course, the vesicles quickly open and heal without traces, there is only temporary hypopigmentation in their place; with a more serious course of streptoderma, the growth layer of the skin suffers, after opening the vesicles, scars remain on the skin. If large areas are affected and the spots on the skin exceed 10 cm in diameter, patients complain of increased body temperature and an increase in regional lymph nodes.
Most often, streptoderma affects the lower extremities, although it can appear on the face, spread throughout the body. At the same time, hair and nails never suffer. Streptoderma spots can appear not only on healthy skin, but also on those parts of it that are affected by some other disease.
Reasons why streptoderma can become chronic
Most often, the process of streptoderma is chronicized against the background of chronic diseases – such as diabetes mellitus, kidney failure. In this case, the disease has an undulating course, and spots on the skin are replaced by abscesses or foci of peeling. Other reasons why streptoderma can become chronic:
- permanent overheating of the body (high room temperatures, warm clothing);
- varicose veins;
- presence of open wounds;
- contact with water, frequent traumatization of lesions.
Streptoderma treatment and skin treatment features
For small and shallow lesions in patients with a normal immune status and a satisfactory general condition, streptoderma therapy is carried out at the local level. Patients are advised to exclude contact with water, wash themselves by wiping healthy areas of the skin with a damp swab. Monitor the temperature regime and prevent overheating of the body, sweating. Spots on the skin in the lesions are carefully treated twice a day – open the bubbles with a sterile needle, treat with aniline dyes. The resulting crusts are lubricated with salicylic vaseline. The lesions are covered with dry aseptic dressings. With long-term streptoderma, a course of antibiotic therapy is prescribed.
