Dark circles under the eyes give the face an aged haggard look, create an unhealthy, unattractive impression. A cosmetologist's patient complaining of bruises under the eyes needs a detailed diagnostic examination, since there can be quite a few reasons for this cosmetic defect. Dark circles under the eyes are caused not only by external causes in the form of an unhealthy lifestyle, but also by internal disorders of the body, so the treatment of this cosmetic defect requires an integrated approach.

Reasons for bruising under the eyes

The paraorbital region differs from other areas of the face in its anatomical features and skin structure. There is a very thin adipose tissue, a minimum of sebaceous glands, a thin layer of the epidermis and the stratum corneum, very few collagen fibers, and closely spaced blood vessels. All these factors determine the special condition of the skin in the periorbital region – it is more prone to dryness and thinning, a decrease in tone, and therefore the capillaries in this area of the face begin to strongly shine through the skin, creating the effect of bruises under the eyes.

Because of what we can observe dark circles under the eyes:

  • overwork and chronic sleep deprivation (under such conditions, the skin becomes pale, and bruises under the eyes are more clearly visible);
  • genetic feature (close location of blood vessels under the skin);
  • excessive pigmentation in the periorbital region;
  • dehydration of the body;
  • hypovitaminosis;
  • abrupt weight loss;
  • metabolic disorder;
  • unhealthy lifestyle (smoking, unhealthy diet);
  • poor skin care of the infraorbital zone.

What diseases can cause bruising under the eyes

The reasons for bruising under the eyes may be internal diseases, in which there is an expansion of blood vessels, an insufficient supply of oxygen to the blood, an increase in the permeability of the vascular walls – all these factors can cause dark vessels to become very visible through thin skin, and distinct bruises under the eyes will appear. Dark circles suggest that the patient has diseases of the kidneys, cardiovascular system, hypothyroidism, and nervous diseases. Bruises under the eyes are caused by allergies, chronic tonsillitis, hay fever.

If the bruises under the eyes are of a blue-violet hue – it can be assumed that the patient has diseases of the heart and circulatory organs, circles with a reddish tint indicate problems with the kidneys, yellowness with bruises under the eyes indicates possible diseases of the liver and gallbladder, a brown tint suggests helminthic invasion.

Techniques for removing dark circles under the eyes

When the examination of a patient does not give grounds to assume serious internal diseases, and bruises under the eyes can be attributed to cosmetic defects, then there are various methods for treatment.

At home, patients can be recommended coffee facial scrub, which tones the walls of thin capillaries and reduces the appearance of bruises under the eyes.

Creams and serums containing hyaluronic acid and collagen have a good effect. All products that the patient uses for skin care in the periorbital area should contain a maximum of moisturizing and softening ingredients.

In the conditions of a cosmetology clinic, the patient is recommended sparing chemical peels, microcurrent therapy, mesotherapy, laser procedures to strengthen the vascular walls and tighten the skin of the periorbital area.

If various cosmetic procedures fail to remove bruises under the eyes, you can resort to lipofilling – when the patient's adipose tissue cells, properly processed, are injected in a thin, even layer under the skin in the infraorbital region.
