Even having a perfect figure, many ladies are embarrassed to undress on the beach, in the pool, sauna, if they are unhappy with their own navel and find it ugly. The reasons for such a defect can be both shortcomings in the processing of this delicate place at birth, as well as diseases acquired with age or the consequences of injuries. Can the situation be corrected? And even necessary, if addressing this problem to a plastic surgeon will help improve the patient's quality of life.

Umbilicoplasty is a plastic surgery to correct the navel, which can eliminate almost any of its defects, the only effective way today to change the size, shape or general appearance of this part of the body.

The beauty standard is a neat funnel-shaped navel, which lies on the midline of the abdomen, at the same distance from the pubis and the xiphoid process of the chest.

Indications for umbilicoplasty

One of the unique features of our navel is that, unlike the shape of the nose, the color of the eyes and other details of appearance, we do not inherit it. Its initial "parameters" depend on how the umbilical cord was treated at birth, how the umbilical wound was cared for - problems often arise already at this stage. And with age, new adverse factors may appear: umbilical hernia, unsuccessful piercing, the consequences of injuries, sharp fluctuations in weight (especially during pregnancy), etc.

There are no mandatory medical indications for surgical plastic surgery of the navel. Its shape has no effect on the state of health, it is only about the aesthetic wishes of the patient.

As a rule, people who have the following defects in the navel come to umbilicoplasty:

  • protrudes above the level of the abdomen, which is often due to careless or incorrect tying of the umbilical cord at birth;
  • too deep - it accumulates a lot of specific secretion, which is sometimes difficult to clean out, which creates the effect of a dirty body;
  • wide, stands out strongly even against the background of a flat and taut belly;
  • stretched due to pregnancy or significant weight gain, sagging with age or after a sudden significant weight loss, deformed or completely lost during abdominal operations;
  • wrong, asymmetrically positioned.

In addition, such an operation is shown if:

  • the patient has an umbilical hernia that makes the umbilicus large, round and protruding, in this case umbilicoplasty is combined with an operation to remove the hernia itself (hernioplasty);
  • The skin around the navel is torn, scarred from a failed piercing or injury.
  • How is the operation going
  • Umbilicoplasty takes 30 to 90 minutes and is usually performed under local anesthesia (general anesthesia is optional). Quite often it is performed in combination with abdominoplasty or liposuction of the abdomen.

What exactly the surgeon will do depends on the specifics of the defect that is planned to be repaired.

To change the aesthetic parameters of the navel, an incision is made, after which the desired depth, size and shape are formed, most often in the form of a classic vertical fold.

If a protruding navel needs to be removed, excess skin is excised and the remaining tissues are immersed deep into the skin fold.

The most difficult option is the reconstruction of the lost navel. It is performed from a skin flap on the abdomen.

All necessary incisions are made in such a way that postoperative scars are hidden in the umbilical fold and remain invisible from the side.

Rehabilitation period

Recovery after umbilicoplasty does not take much time, almost always the patient goes home on the day of the operation, and after a few days he can do his usual daily activities, with the exception of significant physical exertion.

Hematomas may remain around the renewed navel, which will disappear on their own in 1-2 weeks. It is mandatory to follow all the surgeon's recommendations for caring for the operated area in order to avoid complications or infection. Until the seams are completely healed, trips to the pool, sauna, solarium, and the beach are excluded. The final result can be assessed in 1.5-2 months.

Contraindications

There are no specific factors precluding umbilicoplasty. But, like other surgical interventions, it is contraindicated in the following cases:

  • oncological diseases;
  • blood clotting disorders;
  • diabetes mellitus;
  • acute infectious, febrile conditions or exacerbations of chronic diseases.

Of course, everything in a beautiful body must be perfect. And this, of course, also applies to the navel. The navel is not just a rudiment, a scar that remains after cutting the umbilical cord, but an integral element of an aesthetically beautiful abdomen.
Today, it is extremely rare for navel plastic surgery to be performed separately. It is often combined with tummy tuck - abdominoplasty.

Aesthetically flawless navel should be oval, vertically oriented, located along the central line and with a slight depression relative to the anterior abdominal wall, located in the center between the xiphoid process and the pubic symphysis.

The condition of the skin and the presence of excess fatty tissue around the navel are also important. The literature describes the so-called "sad navel", which includes the presence of excess skin over the navel and its horizontal orientation. Correction of a sad navel depends on its severity - from non-surgical thread plastic surgery to a full-fledged abdominoplasty with umbilicoplasty.

For each specific problem, there is a method for correcting it. Sometimes laser lipolysis with liposuction is enough to get a good or excellent result. The method of navel plasty is chosen in each case at a consultation with the patient. In the presence of an umbilical or paraumbilical hernia, the operation will no longer be aesthetic, but for medical reasons.

Plastic surgery today has reached such a level that allows specialists to literally sculpt the desired contour of the face and body. VIPS - Virtual Plastic Surgery - a new direction in plastic surgery, born on the verge of art and 3D technologies:
