Nodular periarteritis of the skin is dangerous due to diagnostic difficulties, because in this disease, dermatological manifestations - such as rash, redness, pigmentation, telangiectasia, and then subcutaneous nodules - are accompanied by fever, myalgia, tachycardia, pain in the abdomen and in the heart area, and others symptoms of various internal diseases. Correct and timely diagnosis can alleviate the painful manifestations of periarteritis nodosa, prevent complications of this disease. But the patient should be aware that in order to avoid relapses, the treatment will have to be repeated periodically.

Periarteritis nodosa is an autoimmune inflammatory lesion of the walls of small and medium-sized arteries, which occurs due to a reactive reaction of the body with the formation of immune complexes. The body can react in a similar way, according to researchers, to vaccination, excessive insolation, to a viral infection (especially often to hepatitis B), to hypothermia, and taking certain medications. The process of vascular inflammation is accompanied by the release of factors of increased thrombus formation, which is why periarteritis nodosa has rather specific rashes - in the form of nodules, most often located in groups.

Symptoms of periarteritis nodosa and their association with vascular disease

Periarteritis nodosa can manifest itself in lesions of the skin, mucous membranes, more often - internal organs, and in especially difficult cases - have skin manifestations in combination with internal lesions. Only capillaries and small arteries are affected. The resulting nodules are most often a bright purple or red color, although they can sometimes lose it over time, and are painless to the touch. Sometimes the nodules heal on their own, but sometimes they ulcerate, and then scars remain in their place.

Foci of nodules are most often localized on the knees, shins and feet, but can appear on the neck and face - in the area of the eyebrows, forehead, corners of the lips, as well as on the mucous membranes of the mouth, lips, genitals. The spread of rashes exactly repeats the spread of the inflammatory process through the vessels.

Among other symptoms that accompany periarteritis nodosa of the skin and help to make the correct diagnosis, the following can be distinguished:

  • high body temperature;
  • very strong weight loss, up to cachexia;
  • intense abdominal pain;
  • blood in the urine;
  • general weakness, convulsions;
  • jaundice;
  • increased blood pressure.

Peculiarities of diagnosis and treatment of periarteritis nodosa of the skin

The diagnostic criteria for periarteritis nodosa are the presence in the patient of various pathological foci on the body at the same time, as well as high blood pressure associated with damage to the kidneys, urinary tract, and a general deterioration in the patient's condition. If periarteritis nodosa is suspected, microscopy of the material from the patient's skin is done.

Periarteritis nodosa is fraught with serious complications in the form of heart attacks, organ sclerosis, intestinal gangrene, uremia and other serious diseases. Therefore, correct diagnosis and timely treatment are very important. Urology in Israel has reached a good level in the treatment of such complications, especially in the urinary system. Usually, treatment is carried out with corticosteroids - courses 2-3 times a year, between which pyrazolone drugs are prescribed. In a complicated course, cytostatics are prescribed. In the chronic course of periarteritis nodosa, massages and hydrotherapy give a good effect.
