An important area is often overlooked when assessing a person for planning anti-aging treatments – back of the face. Injection techniques are constantly evolving. In our time, there is the possibility of injection correction of the back of the palms, the next in line – earlobes.
Why do we need ear lobes correction
When we look at someone's face, we perceive it as a complete picture. So, the ears can safely be called its frame. The earlobes are exposed to the same effects of skin aging as other parts of the face. However, the texture of the skin of the earlobes can deteriorate over time as a result of a decrease in collagen, elastin and volume.
There are environmental factors such as sunlight. People often forget to put sunscreen on their ears. This problem is especially relevant for men and women with short haircuts.
Injuries to the earlobes can also affect a person's appearance. Skin diseases can also affect the ears. The decline in the hormone estrogen and menopause can significantly reduce the volume of the skin, including the earlobes.
Psychic illnesses of various kinds can also cause persistent ear-pulling or skin tingling. Although such cases are rare, thinning and lengthening of the earlobe can also be caused by such problems.
Features of the anatomy of the ear, taken into account when introducing fillers
The injection site for dermal fillers for earlobe rejuvenation is located below the tragus of the auricle. There are two types of ears – autosomal recessive and autosomal dominant. Both species occur with equal frequency in humans.
Dermal fillers are not always suitable for earlobes. Earrings that are too heavy can often lead to an unattractive lengthening of the ear piercing site. As it lengthens, a person may feel discomfort in the ear. Dermal fillers do not reduce the size of the pierced hole. In fact, said lengthening can lead to tearing of the earlobe, resulting in the need for surgical correction rather than fillers.
Frank Sign
A long and well-defined crease on the earlobe – quite common in the world. Such a symptom called "Frank's sign" has been considered a possible harbinger of cardiovascular disease for over 40 years.
Technique for inserting dermal fillers into the earlobe
There are three preferred sites for inserting dermal fillers into the earlobe:
- front access point;
- edge (side) access point;
- rear access point.
Merz, whose products Belotero and Radiesse are suitable for insertion into the earlobe, advises the insertion of fillers in a linear thread-like pattern, with one insertion point lower than the other.
In case of loss of volume, it is recommended to inject the filler into the back "hidden" a point located behind the tragus of the auricle. Thanks to this technique of introducing fillers into the earlobe, the patient can leave the clinic without visible traces after the procedure.
The earlobe is about 25% of the length of the entire ear, the optimal length of the earlobe is 1.5 – 2 cm. When introducing fillers, it is important to follow these proportions so that the result does not look unnatural (for this, approximately 1 ml of product is used per earlobe).
The insertion technique is simple and patients are often satisfied with the results. The procedure for inserting fillers into the earlobe is characterized by a low level of risk.
Side effects of dermal fillers in the earlobe
Injecting dermal fillers into the earlobe has its own side effects, including bleeding, redness, and swelling. Bleeding can be easily stopped.
The following side effects may occur later:
- moderate pain that lasts for several days;
- swelling that disappears a few days after the injection of hyaluronic acid and 5 days after the injection of a filler that stimulates the production of collagen – Ellanse or Radiesse;
- also the patient should be warned about possible lumpiness, which disappears after about a week.
Perhaps in the future there will be a dermal filler specifically designed to rejuvenate the earlobes. It is worth noting that the popularity of this procedure is growing, so estheticians may seriously consider including it in their list of services.
