Women's lips – this is a very specific part of the face, which primarily attracts the eyes of others. Since ancient times, people have been looking for a variety of ways to draw attention to the lips – dyes and plant sap were rubbed into them, pierced and decorated with jewels. Why is it so important for a person to show the beauty and juiciness of the lips? Because on an unconscious level, we perceive their condition as one of the main markers of age. In addition, thin lips are perceived by others as a sign of not the most pleasant qualities of character – cunning, malice, secrecy. And since such a  the shape of the lips is only congenital or acquired  appearance, then lip plastic surgery will help solve this problem.

What determines the shape of the lips and why there are thin lips

The circular muscle located around the mouth is responsible for the shape of the lips. The lips are formed by skin-muscle folds, and depending on the amount of muscle, connective tissue, either plump and convex, or narrow  thin lips. Puffy lips are not characteristic of the European race, in addition, their volume depends on hereditary characteristics and decreases with age.

The shape of the lips has always been perceived differently depending on the era, country, social class, fashion. So, medieval beauties posed for painters only with tightly pursed lips, since a woman was supposed to have thin lips. About a hundred years ago, only the ladies of the demimonde could afford plump bright lips. Today, such lips are considered a sign of youth and health, so lip plastic surgery, which women seek in cosmetology clinics, is designed to turn thin lips into plump and voluminous.

Why very thin lips need correction

Thin lips can be both an innate feature of appearance and an acquired aesthetic flaw – such as after injury or surgery. In addition, thin lips are often asymmetrical, and can not only make the face gloomy and unattractive, but also give disharmony to the whole image.

The lips may look thinner than usual due to the poor condition of the red border if it is often damaged, for example, by herpes or other infectious diseases, as well as by incorrectly applied permanent makeup. Thin lips are obtained with chronic dehydration of the body and with the use of low-quality cosmetics that dry out the skin.

Thin lips become thin very early in smokers. Lips are in direct contact with a smoldering cigarette, the products of burning tobacco and paper are deposited directly on the area of the lips, and all substances that are formed during the burning of a cigarette first of all fall on the mucous membrane, leading to accelerated aging of this zone.

Methods that correct thin lips

Cheiloplasty, or lip plasty, is not used very often for correction. Usually, lip plasty is used to correct congenital deformities or traumatic consequences.

More often, thin lips are corrected with the help of contouring. It is performed by introducing fillers that add volume to the lips, change their shape, and eliminate asymmetry. As fillers, biopolymer gels with hyaluronic acid and other fillers are used. Thin lips can be corrected by injecting the patient's own fat cells. The last word in the choice of the drug and the method of lip correction always remains with the doctor.
