People are known to rarely look at the images on banknotes. This is not surprising, because a person is more concerned about its value than its appearance. However, at the moment when banknotes come into view of a person, significant changes occur in his behavior.
Hong Kong scientists conducted a series of experiments in which they wanted to know what kind of reaction people have when they see money. The experiment involved volunteers, whom the researchers divided into two groups. One group looked at bills, the other looked at coins. It turned out that at the moment when the subjects were shown banknotes, they tried to hide their emotions and behaved more closed and selfish.
Professor Kathleen Vos has done similar experiments before. In 2006, she presented her research on how money-related reasoning influences human behavior. The findings of this work clearly indicated that thoughts about money provoke in people a disregard for the help offered to them, as well as a refusal to help others. Such people distance themselves from others and become more withdrawn, selfish.
