In the short story "Bait", written in 1865, Emile Zola described a curious phenomenon. Rich, but not too attractive, Parisian ladies bought ugly companions in order to appear beautiful against their background. It was believed that nothing would decorate a woman better - neither lace, nor hairpieces, nor cosmetics ... The ugliness of a companion would create such an advantageous background for a woman that men would fall at her feet. The world has changed a lot in the last 150 years.

Scientists believe that a woman can be made more attractive than her... beautiful friends! This phenomenon has been called the "cheerleading effect" because it is most noticeable in cheerleading teams, where an unattractive girl looks much more attractive surrounded by pretty girlfriends than solo. It's like she's getting some of her friends' glitter.

University of California psychologists Drew Walker and Edward Wool conducted an experimental study that led to the conclusion that the habit of being surrounded by beautiful people increases the attractiveness of a person. The 130 participants in the study were asked to rate the attractiveness of 100 people in different photographs, with the same person being presented to the participants in two photographs, an individual and a group. The results clearly indicated that both men and women in group shots were perceived as more attractive.

Let's not argue with science. A beautiful girlfriend will certainly attract men to your table. However, whether you will be able to win over a sufficient part of male attention to your side is a question. Although there is something that will definitely help you in attracting the opposite sex - awareness of the uniqueness of your own image and its protection.
