Краснота глаз: в чем причины и нужно ли идти к офтальмологу

Red vascular network on eyeball — a problem that almost everyone has faced. This is usually a temporary painless symptom caused by a violation of the regimen or external stimuli. But  in some cases, the redness of the eyes causes discomfort and becomes an indicator of the disease.

The editors of estet-portal.com will help you figure out why your eyes turn red and how to get rid of this.

Eyes reveal your habits

The inflamed eyes spoil the most perfect look. They are a good indicator of your pastime and physical condition. There are many reasons for redness of the eyes. But among them, ophthalmologists identify the most common, not associated with chronic disease:

  • Environment: strong wind, bright sun — irritating factors for the mucous membrane.

  • Cigarette smoke, chlorinated water. They are very toxic to the eyes.

  • Excessive alcohol consumption, significant physical activity, severe coughing increase the pressure in the vessels of the eye.

  • Incorrectly fitted lenses. The thicker they are, the less oxygen they let through. It is better to use soft thin lenses containing silicone hydrogel. It is important to take proper care of  contact lenses and observe storage hygiene. To avoid infection, wash and dry your hands thoroughly before inserting or removing lenses.

  • Insomnia. When the eyelids are closed, the mucous membrane of the eye becomes intensely moistened. If you stay awake for a long time, dryness and irritation of the eyeball appears.

  • Eye strain. Prolonged reading and studying in front of a computer and TV cause dry eye syndrome. When looking at a monitor or TV screen, the blinking frequency decreases and the natural flow of tears decreases.

  • Minor injuries and ingression of a foreign body. Closely located vessels of the eyeball instantly react to sand, pollen and other foreign objects.

  • Frequent use of vasoconstrictive eye drops. These are usually taken to relieve red eye symptoms. However, excessive instillation leads to addiction, and redness increases.

In these cases, the redness resolves quickly and does not cause serious concern.

Red eyes — symptom of health disorder

The eyes are systematically engorged, the redness does not go away in 1-3 days, and there is no apparent reason for such a pathology. If you feel a burning sensation, cramps, sour eyes, a drop in visual acuity, then you should visit an ophthalmologist. In this case, only a doctor will determine how serious your condition is.

Diseases that burst blood vessels in eyes:

  • Glaucoma. Often accompanied by increased intraocular pressure. It is characterized by subconjunctival hemorrhage. In this case, the eyeball becomes completely red.

  • Conjunctivitis. Inflammation of the mucous membrane develops on the background of an allergy, bacterial or viral infection.

  • Blepharitis. An infectious disease in which the edges of the eyelids become inflamed.

  • Uveitis. Inflammation of the vessels of the eye — this is a serious disease. If untimely treatment leads to blindness.

  • Iritis. Inflammation of the iris of the eye develops with tuberculosis, syphilis, diabetes, hypothyroidism and a number of other diseases.

This is an incomplete list of diseases that are accompanied by redness of the eyes. Only accurate diagnosis will help to cope with the disease and remove the concomitant symptom.

In the "office syndrome", when the mucous membrane of the eye dries up, observe the following rules:

Take a break every 40 minutes, get away from the monitor for 10-15 minutes.

  • Do eye exercises. Move your eyes to the left, then to the right. Raise them up and lower. Bring it down to the  nose and make circular motions. Perform each exercise 10 times. It won't take much time, but will effectively relieve eye strain and moisturize them.

  • Once every six months, massage the collar zone.

  • Use tear substitutes and vasoconstrictor drops. Choose drugs after consulting an ophthalmologist.

  • Don't forget a balanced diet. Enter your diet foods rich in vitamins A and C. Pumpkin, dried apricots, liver, nuts, carrots, cabbage, blueberries prevent visual impairment and strengthen blood vessels and muscles of the eyes.

  • By following these rules, you will always have a healthy eye shine and clear look.
