There is an opinion that good skin in adulthood is the result of many years of effort that must be made from a young age. However, in recent research, scientists have found a substance that they believe is the key to youthful skin.
The researchers found that granzyme-B was directly linked to skin aging in mice. During the study, the team of scientists created miniature tanning beds for mice, in which they were exposed to UV lamps three times a week (sessions of 3-4 minutes). This was enough to tan the mice, but not burn them. At week 20, it was seen that mice that had had granzyme-B artificially removed had "perfect" skin compared to the control group, which was wrinkled. Also, in individuals without this granzyme, the amount of collagen was large. Scientists made such a discovery by accident - during the study of the effects of granzyme-B on atherosclerosis and heart attacks. During the experiments, scientists noticed a difference in the quality of the skin of different groups of mice.
Researcher David Granville stated: "We were interested in the aging of blood vessels, we had no idea that the absence of this granzyme also affects the skin." Professor Grenville also added that his team is developing a drug that can block granzyme-B: "We have found natural and synthetic inhibitors of this enzyme, the use of which is quite possible in cosmetology or in case of prolonged exposure to the sun."
