Through a study conducted in Montreal, it was found that the human brain determines the number of calories in a product on its own. This was stated by the leading neuropathologist of the Neurological Institute of Montreal and the author of the study, Alain Daguerre.

30 people took part in this study. Each of them was asked to evaluate the calorie content of foods on a given scale and choose those that they like best. So they were shown images of familiar foods and had their brains scanned at the same time.

During the test, it was determined that when assessing the calorie content of the depicted foods, brain activity increased in the ventromedial prefrontal cortex. It is this area of the brain that is responsible for encoding stimuli. Interestingly, the participants in the experiment were able to accurately determine the calorie content of products. It is interesting that at the same time they gave their preference to the most high-calorie of them.

The author of the experiment notes that brain activity in a certain area can explain not only how a person determines the calorie content of food in various products, but also their choice.

Previously, various studies have shown that people most often prefer food with a lot of calories. Dr. Daguerre says that the development of the results of his research may explain the reason for this choice.
