Unwillingness to follow fashion trends – that's the hallmark of normcore. But at the same time, normcore – it's a style, and it clearly has nothing to do with a disregard for one's appearance.

Home from the 90s

The very name "normcore" was formed from the words: normal – regular and core – the foundation. The history of the development of this direction originates in New York, where urban youth expressed their protest against the dictates of fashion, returning to the "anti-fashion" trends of the 1990s. Jackets, cozy sweatshirts, sweatpants, classic jeans, sweatshirts, T-shirts, sneakers and sneakers – a well-known wardrobe that became popular in the 1990s and has not lost its position today.

No matter how much the opponents of normcore say that it is faceless and tasteless, the "adepts" of this style are becoming more and more every day. Why chase fashion when you can express your individuality in a different way? "Dress simple, find other ways to express yourself and keep evolving!" – the main call of the normkortsev. However, this does not mean that you need to dress randomly.

Changing the hairpin for sneakers

Normcore is called anti-fashion, but at the same time this style makes its own clear demands. First, shoes and clothes should be comfortable. Secondly, things should not be torn and crumpled. The only exceptions are jeans with holes and patches. Thirdly, restraint of colors is welcomed. As for shoes, in addition to ordinary sneakers, moccasins, comfortable boots and boots with stable heels, sandals will be appropriate.

Restrictions in normcore are also enough. So, under the ban were:

  • skinny sweaters;
  • skinny jeans;
  • corset blouses;
  • shoes with too high heels;
  • wide-brimmed hats;
  • acid tones;
  • bright prints;
  • large inscriptions and brands;
  • layered.

For the poor and the rich

Recently, the British media dubbed Prince William's wife the "Duchess of Normcore", noting her love for simple clothes of democratic brands. At the same time, Catherine wears such things with the dignity inherent in the royal family. The same is said about Julia Roberts – For the past 20 years, the actress has been an ardent fan of this style. In everyday life, she prefers to wear knitted leggings, jeans, sweatshirts and jackets with a hood, sports shoes.

But neither the duchess nor the actress can compare with Steve Jobs. The billionaire and IT genius invariably appeared in public in a loose turtleneck, jeans and sneakers. So much for "fashion for the poor" – this is what his opponents call this style.

Notice for beginners

You don't have to spend a lot of money to join this movement. Use your sense of humor, common sense, and a list of the basics of this style.

  • Black turtleneck. Comfortable, unpretentious to wear, goes with everything, although, as you already understood, this is not so important.
  • A plain white shirt. Really white and immaculately clean.
  • White and gray unprinted t-shirts.
  • Tracksuit. Naturally, without the big name of the manufacturer.
  • Jeans. Not skinny and not classic. Baggy "boyfriends" or pants with slits and holes will do.
  • Socks in soft colors. With sandals, clogs or tags – just what the doctor ordered.
  • Sneakers or boots. Branded models are less appropriate. The standard, unremarkable variant fits the image better.
