Tooth extraction process – frightening phenomenon for the vast majority of people. Many patients agree to do anything to keep their natural tooth and not be subjected to such manipulations by the doctor. However, there are cases when tooth extraction, this extreme measure, is simply necessary to ensure the comfort of the patient's later life. A qualified specialist selects all methods of dental treatment, and only after he is convinced that there is simply no other way out, he informs the patient of unpleasant news. Fortunately, modern methods and drugs for pain relief make the process of tooth extraction minimally uncomfortable.
How does the process of tooth extraction go, in what cases is it necessary?
As mentioned above, the process of extracting a tooth is the last resort, so the usual pain or destruction of a tooth does not necessarily mean that you will lose it. If inflammatory processes or accumulation of pus can damage the bone tissue, the process of tooth extraction in the clinic Alpha Dentistry is carried out urgently. There is no need to worry about pain during the procedure, since the use of anesthetics allows you to completely block pain.
When can a tooth be pulled out?
- Periodontitis of a chronic nature or an acute purulent form of this disease, in which there is obstruction of the root canals, and resection of the root apex or replantation is not possible.
- Inflammatory processes in the bone and periodontium.
- Osteomyelitis of the jaws in acute form.
- In case of trigeminal neuralgia, which arose "through the fault" of tooth.
- If, with a misplaced tooth, it permanently injures the tongue or cheek.
- In case of improperly growing wisdom teeth.
- If the tooth makes prosthetics impossible (infection).
- In some cases, broken teeth.
- For aesthetic purposes at the request of the patient.
Despite the effect of the anesthetic, which provides a minimum of discomfort, you need to prepare for the feeling of – it can be quite unpleasant – significant pressure. The thing is that pulling out a tooth – not so easy, it takes effort.
This does not happen often, but if you suddenly feel pain during the procedure, you should inform the doctor about this so that he can adjust the dose of the anesthetic.
What to expect after the tooth extraction process, what are the possible complications?
Bleeding – quite a common occurrence after the process of tooth extraction. Stop it in a simple way – cotton swab, which is changed about once an hour (depending on the intensity of bleeding). After the blood flow from the wound stops, a blood clot forms at the site of removal, which contributes to the healing process. A doctor should be contacted if the bleeding does not improve after a few hours.
How to care for the extraction site?
- No eating and/or smoking for 2-4 hours after surgery.
- Gently rinse with baking soda (half a teaspoon to a glass of cool water).
- Avoiding hot drinks for a couple of days.
- In the first hours after the – exposure to ice (5 minutes each). Ice is applied to the cheek, must be wrapped in cloth.
- No alcohol for 24 hours.
More specific and extended recommendations will be given to you by a specialist after the tooth extraction procedure, based on a specific case, possible prescribed antibiotics and painkillers.
