Osteochondrosis — a disease that can make itself known at any time. And even a long-term remission can end in sudden pain, which, without exaggeration, deprives a person of peace and sleep.
First of all, at such moments, you should consult a doctor, and take a course of "intensive" medical treatment that will eliminate acute inflammation and accompanying symptoms. And when the disease goes into a subacute course, you can apply self-massage for osteochondrosis. A few simple tricks will help slow down the pathological process in the intervertebral discs, improve the flow of blood and nutrients to them, and significantly reduce the frequency of relapses.

Self-massage for osteochondrosis: the main and most effective techniques
For self-massage, you will need your own hands and a hard terry towel (its length should be such that you could hold the towel by the ends, spreading your arms out to sides). To stiffen the textile, it can be pre-soaked in salt water and then dried without rinsing.
Self-massage is recommended to be carried out exactly in the sequence given below:
-
Wrap a towel behind back and, holding it firmly by ends, begin to make "sawing" horizontal movements on the skin, rubbing it in the direction from above (from neck) down (to sacrum). Continue these movements until you feel a pleasant heat in skin.
-
Pull one end of the towel up and the other — down so that the towel is diagonally across the back. Again, make rubbing movements, but in this position you will already begin to "capture" lateral parts of the back. Try to pull the towel tightly and direct its ends not to sides, but a little forward — this way you will more actively massage the ribs and lower back. After 1-2 minutes, swap the ends (the one that was at the top, move down, and the lower end —up) and continue to rub your back in the other direction.
-
The towel is again in a horizontal position, as it was at the very beginning. Sharply spread your arms to & nbsp; sides, pulling the towel, then loosen its tension & mdash; this will make "clapping" massage movements. 2-3 top to bottom and bottom to top.

The total duration of self-massage is about 5-7 minutes, which will allow even the busiest person to carry it out. But even such a seemingly light massage requires an understanding of some nuances.
How to increase the effectiveness of massage and prevent complications
The first and basic rule to follow — massage is contraindicated in the period of exacerbation. The most you can afford — these are light rubbing movements when applying an anesthetic, anti-inflammatory or irritant gel or ointment.

You should also gently massage the cervical region — the spine in this area is the most vulnerable, and important blood vessels lie in the soft tissues of the neck.
And don't ignore healthy parts of the spine: if you have osteochondrosis of the lumbar, it doesn means that attention should be paid only to him. Spine — a structure, all components of which are interconnected, and the health of one department is important for the health of the others.
To improve the effectiveness of self-massage, use the following tips:
-
Massage movements will bring more benefits to a warmed up body. Start the massage after a warm shower or bath, after drying the skin well.
-
Therapeutic gel or ointment, applied to the affected area of the back 10-15 minutes before the massage, will penetrate deeper under the influence of massage movements. It is not advisable to apply the gel immediately before the massage — it does not have time to be absorbed into skin and active ingredients intended for pain relief or anti-inflammatory effect will remain on the towel.
-
After completing the massage, be sure to put on a warm bathrobe or sweater, and avoid hypothermia. Under the influence of massage movements, a large volume of blood rushes to the surface of the skin, which increases the likelihood of vasospasms and, as a result, increased pain during hypothermia.
But the greatest effect of self-massage techniques is when they are used simultaneously with exercise therapy. Simple 3-5-minute gymnastics in combination with massage will help to cope with the consequences of osteochondrosis and minimize the impact of this disease on the quality of life.
