Do you know that the majority of deaths occur in sleep in the morning, at 4 & 5 o'clock, when, against the background of adverse factors (high blood pressure, atherosclerosis), the blood supply to the brain deteriorates due to incorrect position in sleep? But if you follow certain rules, you can not only get rid of pain, but also help the body to improve health and accumulate vitality during a night's rest.

Why did Suvorov sleep on boards, or Why does the spine not want a hard bed?

From a high school course, we remember that the future commander slept on boards (and sometimes on the floor, covering it with a thin blanket), doused himself with cold water and rode a horse at any time of the year. We will not argue about the last two types of hardening. As for the first, the doctors of our time would clearly not approve of such an impulse: the spiral shape of the spine straightens from a hard surface and becomes like a concrete pillar.  The blood circulation is disturbed in the place where the torso is attached to a hard bed, but it is there that a feeling of numbness or creeping "goosebumps" appears.

All sleep: healthy sleep rules:

  • you need to sleep on a semi-hard bed: there should be a wooden shield below, covered on top with several soft mattresses;
  • if you prefer to read in bed, sit half-sitting to  reduce stress on your cervical vertebrae as much as possible;
  • keep your head on the pillow while you sleep, and your body — on the mattress.

However, as you know, any rules have exceptions. Especially when it comes to various ailments that do not allow you to comfortably sit in bed. Let's try to figure out how this can be done.

If the pain…

…in the spine. A pillow placed under the abdomen will reduce the amplitude of straightening  forward of the lower back and relieve pain;
…in the back. Sleep on your side. Put your hand under your head, and put your legs one on top of the other;
…in the leg. Place a rolled up towel under your knee to relieve pain.

How to get out of bed painlessly during an acute period of illness: & nbsp;

  • lie on your side and move as far as possible to the edge of the bed;
  • lean your elbow on the bed and at the same time lower your legs to the floor;
  • stand up without making sharp bends forward.

Life-threatening: Sleep positions that are detrimental to health

Do not sleep on rollers. Lateral inclination of the neck compresses the cervical artery. Impaired blood flow can cause cerebral ischemia.

Don't sleep on your stomach. The head is turned and the cervical artery is occluded.

Don't sleep on your stomach with your hand behind your head. Double squeeze — brachial plexus and anterior muscle of the subclavian artery.
