Many women are afraid of natural childbirth, as this process is quite painful and they believe that it is better to give preference to a caesarean section. However, experts believe that one should not draw hasty conclusions and resort to such an operation only if necessary.
The official recommendation for caesarean section has been published by the World Health Organization. Experts believe that a prerequisite for this operation should be the presence of medical indications, that is, only if during natural childbirth there is a high probability of death of the child or mother. The main goal of a caesarean section is to save the life of the mother and child, but such an operation should be resorted to only if the woman really needs it.
In 1985, the international medical community found that the optimal rate of caesarean sections performed among all women who gave birth is from 10 to 15%. Thus, this number of performed surgeries makes it possible to achieve a reduction in child and maternal mortality rates. Provided that this figure is more than 10%, the number of deaths in childbirth remains unchanged.
It should be taken into account that during a caesarean section, complications can occur - disability and even death. It is especially dangerous for the patient to carry out such an operation in poorly equipped hospitals. In addition, a caesarean section is several times more expensive than a natural birth.
