Анатомия и старение губ: главные особенности

Facial features, curves, gaze – the moments that make us us and reflect the inner state.  It is by the state of the lips that information about the health of the body and age can be read.

The expressive shape, their gentle color will leave few people indifferent and immediately focus attention on the face. This is a rather delicate and delicate area, so it requires special attention and care. Sometimes care is not enough as anatomy and physiology come into play.

Read further in the article on estet-portal.com, what anatomical and physiological features have an impact on the condition of your lips and the perioral zone of the face, what is the relationship between the condition lips and hormonal healthand how aging manifests itself.

Anatomy, as the basis of the volume, color and shape of the lips

Both lips are formed by orbicularis muscle, covered with skin on the outside. The intermediate part of the lips is covered with stratified squamous keratinized epithelium, but here it becomes thinner and more transparent than usual.

Through the epithelium blood supplying vessels are translucent and thus form red border (vermilion) and color lips. There are no sweat glands in this part of the lips, only sebaceous glands are preserved, the ducts of which open to the surface of the epithelium. Most of them are in the upper lip, especially in the corner of the mouth.

The upper lip has a groove (filtrum) and a tubercle.  The lips are connected to each other by commissures or, as they are also called – spikes.

Inside, the lips are covered with stratified squamous non-keratinized epithelium. With the help of the bridle it passes to the mucous membrane of the gums of the upper and lower jaws.

There are no sweat glands in the mucous membrane of the lips , but whitish small nodules can sometimes be seen. These are reduced sebaceous glands – Fordyce granules. Their occurrence is associated with adolescence and the action of sex hormones.

In adulthood, Fordyce granules smooth out and dissolve on their own due to a decrease in the secretion of the sebaceous glands.

The secretory sections of the salivary labial glands are located in the submucosa.

The appearance of the perioral zone is very dependent on the facial muscles of the lower third of the face, due to their peculiarities. With one part they are attached to the bone, and the other is fixed in the skin or mucous membrane.

The muscles levator and depressor muscles are isolated.

Levators include:

  • major and minor zygomatic muscles;
  • muscle that raises the corner of the mouth;
  • muscle that raises the upper lip;
  • muscle that lifts the upper lip and wing of the nose;
  • laughing muscle;
  • cheek muscle;
  • chin muscle.

To depressors:

  • muscle that lowers the lower lip;
  • muscle that lowers the corner of the mouth;
  • subcutaneous muscle of the neck;
  • orbicularis muscle of the mouth.

All of them, one way or another, are involved in movements and the formation of creases, are responsible for the shape of the lips. This fact must be taken into account when correcting them, as well as when smoothing mimic wrinkles with botulinum toxin, whichwould not cause harm.

Marker of hormonal youth and indicator of age-related changes

Lips can be safely considered a mirror of a woman's reproductive system. They are literally a marker of youth, as they are hormone-dependent structures. All thanks to the presence in the lips of receptors for female sex hormones – estrogen.

At reproductive age, this relationship increases the amount of hyaluronic acid in the skin, which provides it with better hydration. As soon as the first fluctuations occur, this is immediately reflected in the condition of the lips.

With a decrease in the level of estrogen, characteristic folds and creases appear around the mouth, which then you really want to get rid of.

The lips become thinner, turn pale, pigmentation may appear, as well as hairs above the upper lip due to the relativeth increase in male sex hormones.

Age-related changes in the lips and their relationship with anatomy

With the passage of age, the number of sebaceous glands in the skin decreases,their secretion decreases, as a result of which the skin of the lips and in the perioral zone becomes dry, small folds appear. Over time, they transform into "purse-string wrinkles": the mouth can indeed resemble a tightened pouch.

The blood supply to the lips becomes less intense with age, so the red border of the lips turns pale.

All our life lips are in motion. With age, the direction of movements of the muscles of levators and depressors is disturbed, hypertonicity of one of these groups is formed. When muscles are relaxed by correction with botulinum toxin , mimic wrinkles are smoothed out.

The circular muscle of the mouth, due to its convex shape, provides the lips with volume. However, it flattens out with age.
