We all live in the conditions of globalization and the dominance of mass culture: the same billboards, the same similar faces smiling from them, identical TV channels and the same duplicated content, — it is difficult to leave at least a particle of what would not coincide with another, dictated from the outside. But in aesthetic medicine and cosmetology, being unique is not only possible, but also extremely important. Jared Jagdeo, an expert in pathbiology and oxidative stress of skin trauma, Brown University, Department of Medicine, University of California Dermatology, Davis Sacramento, California, USA, spoke about the need to find a purely personal beauty routine, the effectiveness of beauty devices and the basics of proper home skin care.

Is it enough to take care of the skin without the use of any devices?

My principle is this: in daily care it is better to adhere to the principle "the simpler the better." When a patient with problematic skin comes to me, I first of all advise him to reduce all methods and means of care to a sparing, truly necessary minimum.

The less aggressive products and devices touch your skin, the better for it.

Minimalism in dermatology always gives the best result. Overdo — means to harm. Often, by overdoing their skin care devices, patients put it in a frankly terrible state.

What do I advise your readers? Find your gentle care — and stick to it steadily, then everything will be fine with the skin.

What are the most popular skincare products right now?

In the first place among facial creams - I would put sunscreens, and among the "devices" — sunglasses, no matter how ridiculous it may sound. For the most part, neither cosmetologists nor dermatologists attach much importance to sun glasses, but in vain. When we put them on, we hide our eyes from the sun, and we do not automatically need to squint, which means — the number of wrinkles progressively decreases. This is my little beauty hack: more sunglasses — less botox.

What devices can patients use at home?

The main thing we should take care of in the context of skin care at home, — this is the optimal mode of its cleansing, moisturizing and nutrition. Of course, the skin also needs to be moisturized not only from the outside, but also from the inside. Even the best moisturizers are not enough to maintain optimal cellular hydrobalance, so as a dermatologist, I recommend drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day if such plenty of drinking fits into your schedule. Yes, it's a lot, but as long as your skin stays hydrated, you won't be in danger of premature fading.

What exactly should not be done in home care?

Do not abuse scrubs: this is the worst thing you can "make friends" with; skin! When you wash your face, try to do without sponges, sponges or washcloths accumulating bacteria — for gentle cleansing, a good gel or soap and water is enough.

For men, it is important to be careful and moderately often — 3-4 times a week, no more, — shave so as not to cause unnecessary irritation.

I know European office culture dictates frequent shaving — every morning, but on the other hand — stubble and even beards are back in fashion, try to make your skin benefit from the trends to the maximum.

Another piece of advice I can't ignore: only buy skincare products that have been repeatedly and successfully tested with reputable certification.
