Counterfeit in cosmetics: how to deal with low-quality products on the market

According to the results of a survey conducted by Estet-portal.com among major players in the aesthetic medicine market, in the current 2016 there has been an unprecedented increase in counterfeit products (this problem applies to both drugs and hardware technologies).

Estet-portal.com has prepared several questions on how to counter this phenomenon, which have been raised and discussed frequently this year among the largest companies - distributors of products for the aesthetic medicine market. Today we offer readers the answers to these questions, which were given by Grigoriy Torba, director of the Academy of Science of the Beauty of Ukraine LLC.

How does your company deal with counterfeit products 

G. T.: In my opinion,  this is quite natural, given the current economic situation in our country, that & nbsp; the price of the product becomes  defining factor for many professionals. Knowing our doctors as people who are highly responsible to their patients, I would rather go for cheaper products, but supplied by official representatives, than mass purchases of counterfeit and counterfeit products.

I am sure that the counterfeit market does not exceed 15-20% in the segment of VIP drugs. And its consumers are, as a rule, adventurous clients, often without higher medical education. The number of "easy money" lovers,  of course   will increase, but I do not believe in their success. Of course, I do not include counterfeit drugs purchased in EU pharmacies, at exhibitions, congresses.

"Fight" with counterfeit products is the wrong word, we try to create conditions under which cooperation with the ANC brings much more benefits than short-term benefits from such dubious purchases: by representing different brands, we are able to provide profitable complex offers.

Financially, we are a highly stable company, and our regular loyal customers are always provided with additional preferences in the form of payment deferrals, organizing a kind of "warehouse" on the basis of their clinics. products, etc.

We have an unprecedented scientific and educational  a program of various levels of training: from local training to a beginner  to international scientific and practical courses, such as Expert 4U, for example.  The company organizes a huge number of field training events: attendance at international congresses, master classes, etc. Naturally, only our regular customers are involved in all these programs.  

Of course we  we do everything   what is in our power, within the legal framework: we try to inform market participants about the potential dangers of both smuggled goods, and, moreover, counterfeit goods.

We've introduced a permanent hologram logo for each syringe so that at least  the patient could be sure that he was injected with the original drug, and not a fake.

How does ANK protect a doctor from unscrupulous suppliers

G. Т.: I am a little confused by the issue of protecting a doctor from unscrupulous suppliers. Those specialists who work & nbsp; with dubious drugs - far from deceived children and they perfectly understand what they are doing, ordering goods not from official distributors, bringing goods in a suitcase & nbsp; or placing an order online. As for the financial risks of a doctor working with counterfeit goods…

This topic was well described by our head of the anti-age department Olga Suganyak in an investigative article published in Les Nouvelles Esthetiques magazine in September. We had an interesting experience  a kind of investigation: we made an order through a very popular British site on the forums of cosmetologists, which offered products from well-known brands, including ours, & nbsp; almost half price.

Of course, they were scammers. The base price of original drugs may differ by 5-20% depending on local taxation and legislation. The doctor himself makes his own moral choice: the goods of the official representation cannot cost as much as the counterfeit and contraband goods.

If for a doctor these 10% of the cost of goods (pay attention, not even procedures!) Is more important than the potential risks of personal liability, the possibilities   participation in educational programs of representation, marketing information support, service maintenance of equipment, & nbsp; then this is primarily the choice of this particular specialist, in my opinion.

Our task can be formulated as in the well-known saying: "do what you must, and come what may."

We carry out the entire cycle of representation tasks: we conduct local and international trainings, develop the market, and support clients. And I can proudly say that our clients pay us in return, being our true partners!

Why is it important to use only certified products

G. Т.: This is one more stage of protecting the doctor and the patient - protection from illegal and low-quality products, from non-professional market participants. Finally  this is a banal requirement of the regulatory authorities, and for the normal, calm work of a specialist, it is natural to take drugs that have the appropriate certification into work.

What are the problems encountered in the sale of cosmetic products, and how does your company fight

G. Т.: The problems mentioned above are really the most significant, hindering the development of the market. The socio-political situation cannot but affect the results of work. We are all waiting and hoping for a speedy resolution of problems in our country, which will give us the opportunity to work and develop in peace.

What other problems of the cosmetology market, in your opinion, are worth discussing among specialists in order to improve the overall quality of work?

G. T.: I am for the unconditional unification of the content of official representatives in the fight against "illegal immigrants". I also fully support the ideas of "friendship" for "and not" against "when companies perform more  partners in the development of the market, and not competitors who spend time and energy on mutual sinking of each other. We need joint training programs, the development of a common policy & nbsp; ethical promotion, etc. It seems to me that all these are highly topical issues.

    Обидно, когда человек платит немалые деньги за, казалось бы, хорошую косметику, а получает какую-то гадость. К тому же это вредит не только кошельку, но и здоровью. Аллергия - самое легкое, что может произойти от некачественной косметики.<br />В данном случае полностью поддерживаю автора, необходимо бороться с фальсифицированной продукцией. И как можно жестче. Как это делают в экономически развитых государствах.

    Согласна с автором. Тема фальсификации наболевшая для общества, давняя и с этим действительно нужно бороться, не останавливаясь. Я думаю, что постепенно что-то изменится в лучшую сторону. Тут ведь причина не только в желании получить "большие лёгкие деньги", тут дело в менталитете: нужно менять рассуждения в обществе - то есть живи и работай честно, плати налоги и всё будет хорошо и для тебя и людям, для которых ты работаешь. Даже в этом случае прибыль от производства качественной, сертифицированной продукции будет вполне приличная. К сожалению, большинство желает получить другое - сверхприбыль. Бороться с фальсификатом должны мы все: покупая косметику, медикаменты и прочие товары, мы ради себя же должны интересоваться сертификатами на них, но пока мы, видимо, ленимся или нам всё равно, чем нас травят.

    Согласна что бороться надо, но обидно одно что сам потребитель стимулирует этот рынок, если бы покупатель более тщательно все проверял то в конце концов фальсификат перестал бы пользоваться спросом и просто сам бы исчез с полок магазинов. Просто мысль такая что это не один день работы с людьми, что бы поменять их отношение к продукции, а то все понимают это когда становиться совсем поздно.
