Plasty of the navel is carried out not only because the patient does not like its appearance. The shape of the navel can be significantly deformed after pregnancy, unsuccessful piercing, inflammatory diseases or abdominal surgery, and for many other reasons. Finally, the presence of an umbilical hernia becomes a direct indication for navel plastic surgery. However, the shape of the navel in 90% of cases does not suit women, and it is they who become patients of plastic surgeons who want to do umbilicoplasty.
The shape of the navel is considered to be almost the same individual feature of a person as fingerprints. The navel of each of us has a special configuration, depth, size, shape. In fact, this is the first scar on the body acquired by a newborn after cutting the umbilical cord. The shape of the navel depends on how carefully the umbilical cord was cut, how carefully the umbilical wound was cared for in the newborn. In addition, almost every third baby has a kind of developmental anomaly, when the skin on the tummy smoothly passes into the umbilical cord - then after crossing it, the newborn gets a convex navel and will have it all his life.
What determines the shape of the navel and the reasons for its deformation
The normal position of the navel is in the midline of the abdomen between the pubis and the xiphoid process of the sternum. The shape of the navel and its depth depends on the thickness of the subcutaneous fat, on body weight, on the age of the patient, on internal diseases. So, for example, a wide protruding navel may indicate increased intra-abdominal pressure and an umbilical hernia. Other causes of belly button deformity:
- pregnancy;
- unsuccessful piercing that injured the skin around the navel;
- significant fluctuations in body weight;
- age-related ptosis of abdominal tissues.
- Displacement of the navel may occur as a result of trauma or unsuccessful liposuction, in which case the navel plasty is performed for medical reasons.
Indications for umbilical plasty surgery and methods of its correction
Most often, navel surgery is performed at the request of patients seeking to correct its shape, which, in their opinion, is not aesthetically attractive enough. Many want to reduce it, make it neat and sexy - in the form of a small vertical fold. Often, navel plasty is combined with tummy tuck or umbilical hernia removal, if necessary.
Medical indications for umbilicoplasty are:
- displacement of the navel;
- curved, excessively convex shape of the navel;
- very large depth and width of the navel;
- regular accumulation of secretions in the umbilical fossa;
- deformity of the navel due to age-related skin changes, as a result of liposuction, severe weight loss, injuries, ruptures after piercing, abdominal surgery.
Contraindications for navel plastic surgery are diabetes mellitus, blood clotting disorders, acute infectious processes, exacerbation of chronic diseases of internal organs.
The navel is corrected through a para-umbilical incision, excess skin is excised, the navel is immersed inward. Self-absorbable sutures are applied, the postoperative scar is hidden inside the navel. Within a week, postoperative bruises disappear, the patient is advised to refrain from tilting, lifting weights, visiting baths and saunas. The final result of the navel plasty can be assessed one and a half to two months after the correction of the navel shape.
