Aesthetic medicine is currently a very popular medical industry among patients of various age categories. A variety of effective procedures allows you to effectively correct not only age-related changes, but also many other aesthetic defects. Depending on the age of the patient and his requests, the specialist selects the most effective correction scheme. But it is very important to eliminate not only individual imperfections, but also to look at the patient as a whole.
A doctor of the highest category, dermatovenereologist and physiotherapist Ekaterina Olegovna Gutop talks about the holistic approach to aesthetic correction in an exclusive interview for estet-portal.com.
Ekaterina Olegovna, tell me what does a holistic approach to the aesthetic correction of a patient imply?
Holistic approach – this is a complex aesthetic correction that takes into account all the parameters of a particular patient: social, physiological, psychological, and, of course, aesthetic. As part of a holistic approach, as a rule, we try to choose a program for individual correction, which is sometimes extended in time, and is carried out in a complex, step-by-step manner. But, in any case, the result of this program is a satisfied patient and an increase in the quality of his life.
How does the age of the patient affect the choice of approach to aesthetic correction?
I would say that the age of the patient influences the choice of approach to aesthetic correction, because when we talk about young patients, under the age of 30, today it is almost a quarter of our patients, and 7 years ago it was 7 -8 percent. This is a growing category of patients that comes to us with certain stereotypes, and our task – this is a careful attitude to the patient's face, taking into account his individual parameters of aesthetics, harmony and anatomy, face beautification, emphasis on the most beautiful facial features. It can be a correction of wow zones, for most girls it is an increase in gender, a clear emphasis on the cheekbones, maybe a little more emphasis on the lips, and this is an emphasis on the most attractive features of our young patients.
Speaking of a holistic approach, what are the important points to make when working with young and older patients?
A patient who comes for correction before the age of 30 is hypothetically the same patient who will seek correction throughout his life. And our task is to carry out this correction competently, accurately and carefully, taking into account all the individual characteristics of the beauty of this patient.
One of our goals – it is the harmonization of the face, taking into account individual indicators of aesthetics, but not a clear adherence to the request that our young patient offers us.
Because sometimes this request is dictated from the outside, by certain canons, photographs, standards, and this is not always suitable for a particular person.
What methods do you prefer to use for the correction of aged patients?
Methods for aging patients are selected individually, depending on the type of aging that we diagnose in the patient, on the specific request of the patient, his wishes and those indications that we diagnose and discuss with the patient. Because it is very important to reach a certain consensus during consultations with the patient, and the consensus of the doctor and the patient in terms of its correction should always coincide. For older patients, we work quite actively with fillers, replenishing volumes and redistributing them, erasing age markers and harmonizing the face. We work with botulinum toxin in the area of the upper third of the face, opening the eyes, creating a more positive appearance, more, in my opinion, a better mood in our patients, and, of course, we have been using hardware techniques very actively lately. I really like the methods of radio wave lifting, and working with the method of microneedling RF rejuvenation, we get very good results. It perfectly combines with fillers, botulinum toxin, logically fits into all programs for patients, say, over 35 years old, provides both correction and certain prevention of aging processes for patients of different age groups.
Does the holistic approach to aesthetic correction have any disadvantages?
This concept is quite new, it has been promoted recently, but I would say that I do not know the shortcomings, because when we studied at an institute or university, we were always taught to treat the patient, not the disease. Here the approach is very similar: we work with a specific patient, with his overall appearance.
As part of a holistic approach, we consider not only aesthetics, but also the issue of physical, psychological and emotional health.
I think that with this approach there are practically no shortcomings in terms of the work of the doctor and the patient.
