The development of glomerulonephritis occurs, as a rule, unexpectedly and extremely at the wrong time for the patient, since this disease is a kind of complication in response to an infectious process caused by streptococcus or some systemic disease. Glomerulonephritis acts as an excessive immune reaction of the body to streptococci, because of which the capillaries in the renal glomeruli suffer, and their defeat causes a cascade of reactions leading to kidney failure. That is why the treatment of glomerulonephritis should be started as early as possible in order to prevent serious complications.
Treatment of glomerulonephritis and the influence of the causes of the disease on the choice of therapy
Streptococcal infection is the cause of glomerulonephritis. Initially, the patient, as a rule, develops angina, scarlet fever, exacerbation of chronic tonsillitis or streptoderma is possible. The trigger event for the manifestation of glomerulonephritis is often chickenpox or measles. There is evidence that glomerulonephritis was provoked by the bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae and Neisseria meningitidis. Usually glomerulonephritis appears about three weeks after the onset of one of the listed diseases, although it can manifest earlier.
Researchers note that when a disease caused by streptococcal infection occurs in some group, after a short time, every second person in the urine shows changes indicating an asymptomatic course of glomerulonephritis.
The likelihood of developing glomerulonephritis is significantly increased if a person is exposed to cold combined with high humidity for a long time, since the combination of these factors can affect the blood supply to the kidneys.
Complications that can occur without timely initiation of treatment for glomerulonephritis are quite severe:
- renal encephalopathy,
- visual impairment,
- acute renal failure,
- intracerebral hemorrhage,
- acute heart failure.
Among the factors that increase the risk of glomerulonephritis becoming chronic, the presence of hypoplastic kidney dysplasia is noted. In addition, the danger is chronic diffuse glomerulonephritis, which often resists immunosuppressive therapy and progresses rapidly, leading to disability of the patient.
Treatment of glomerulonephritis can be quite effective if started as early as possible, preventing the development of irreversible changes in the kidneys leading to kidney failure and other complications.
Features of glomerulonephritis treatment and disease prognosis
The onset of glomerulonephritis is usually acute, characterized by high fever, nausea, general weakness chills, headaches. Since glomerulonephritis usually manifests a couple of weeks after the onset of the underlying disease (for example, tonsillitis or SARS), it is often mistaken for its repeated stage and, unfortunately, the time needed for treatment is missed. Therefore, it is very important to pay attention to such very characteristic & nbsp; signs such as morning puffiness of the face, swelling of the eyelids, discoloration of urine, increased blood pressure.
For the treatment of glomerudonephritis, antibiotic therapy is prescribed in combination with anti-inflammatory and immunocorrective drugs. If necessary, use corticosteroids. Symptomatically recommended drugs that relieve swelling and normalize blood pressure.
The duration of remission depends on the severity of the symptoms of the disease and on how early treatment was started. The patient must be under medical supervision for another two years after recovery.
