Fibroma refers to benign formations and develops from the connective tissue of the mammary gland, it can also occur in other organs. Some types of breast fibroids are prone to rapid growth and can develop into malignant tumors. But most often the mammary glands suffer from fibroadenomatosis or fibroadenoma. The reasons for the development of fibroids usually lie in the sharp fluctuations in the hormonal background, so the mammary glands are at an increased risk of developing this disease. Fibroma of the breast is subject to careful examination to exclude the development of a cancerous tumor.
Manifestations of breast fibroma, types and symptoms
Mammologists are faced with such manifestations of breast fibroma as diffuse fibroadenomatosis and fibroadenoma. In the first case, the fibrous tissue grows throughout the entire mammary gland, and in the second case, it is localized as a rounded dense nodule that rolls freely under the skin and is also prone to increase over time. Fibroadenomas do not damage the surrounding tissues and do not grow into other organs, do not hurt, but sometimes before the onset of menstruation they cause a feeling of fullness in the mammary gland.
Breast fibroma is fairly easy to diagnose when undergoing ultrasound or mammography, but it requires a mandatory more detailed study to rule out a malignant neoplasm.
Breast fibroma treatment and prognosis
Treatment for a breast fibroma is usually surgical removal. In the early stages, when the fibroadenoma is very small, its therapeutic treatment is possible, but, as a rule, its complete resorption cannot be achieved. If there is no positive dynamics or if the tumor is large, it must be removed.
Surgical treatment of breast fibroma can be an enucleation method, when only the tumor is removed, and a sectoral resection method, when part of the surrounding tissues is excised along with the tumor. The removed fibroma is subject to histological examination. The sutures after the operation are removed on the tenth day, usually after the operation there is no defect on the skin.
Fibroma of the breast may not progress for a long time, and then quickly grow until the breast is completely filled. A removed fibroma does not guarantee that a similar tumor will not occur in the same breast or in another.
