What is forehead plastic surgery?
Forehead plastic surgery eliminates sagging skin of the forehead, upper eyelids and eyebrows. In some cases, this procedure is performed during a facelift or rhinoplasty.
There are two ways to lift the forehead and eyebrows:
- Classic lifting;
- Endoscopic lifting.
In a classic facelift, an incision is made from the level of the ears along the hairline. Depending on the location of the patient's hairline, the surgeon will perform the procedure in a manner that avoids any visible scarring.
In the case of an endoscopic facelift, several short incisions are made in the patient's scalp. Then the endoscope is inserted into the incisions – a small chamber at the end of a thin tube, – and use another device to make the necessary changes. Endoscopic lifting – the procedure is less invasive than a classic facelift, as the incisions are shorter. There will also be fewer scars and a shorter recovery period.
Before the operation, it is necessary to have a doctor's consultation, during which he will evaluate the entire area of the patient's forehead, including the upper eyelids. Also, the doctor may ask, for example, to stop drinking and smoking, to take certain medications before the operation. May also need a haircut.
The operation itself lasts less than two hours, after which, as a rule, it will be necessary to stay in the clinic for the night. In most cases, local anesthesia is used for this operation, but at the request of the patient, general anesthesia can also be performed. After the operation is completed, the surgeon sews up the incisions and rewinds the face. It is very important to follow all your doctor's instructions regarding dressings and how often to change them.
What to expect after a forehead lift?
The recovery period depends on what type of lifting was performed – classical or endoscopic. In any case, the stitches will need to be removed after about a week. Swelling and bruising, including on the cheeks and eyes, are common after any surgical procedure. They go away in about a week.
After a classic facelift, pain during recovery is longer. The doctor will prescribe painkillers. Itching may also occur, which lasts for about two months. After the procedure using an endoscope, you will also need pain medication. Itching is not excluded, however, it should be less pronounced than when using the classical method. With both technologies, numbness or tingling is also possible, which also disappears with time.
Most patients can return to work within 10 days after surgery (the exact time depends on the type of facelift and the individual characteristics of the body). Also, for the first couple of weeks after the operation, it is forbidden to lift weights or perform exercises that require a lot of effort.
While the side effects of this procedure are minimal, possible complications may include infection, scarring, difficulty moving the eyebrows, or loss of sensation around the incision site. However, these complications rarely occur. It is necessary to immediately consult a doctor if after the operation the patient has a significant fever or swelling and bleeding is excessive.
