Transconjunctival blepharoplasty is one of the most popular eyelid correction methods, as it does not involve trauma to the eyelid tissue and does not require surgical sutures.
Access through the conjunctiva allows the operation to be performed under local anesthesia in a fairly short period of time – no more than an hour.
After the operation is completed, the patient can go home. Transconjunctival blepharoplasty can be performed with a conventional scalpel, but in recent years, surgeons have increasingly preferred to use a laser beam to cut tissue. However, this method, in addition to its advantages, has some disadvantages, which are important for both the specialist and the patient to be aware of.
Transconjunctival blepharoplasty:
• the main advantages of the method of transconjunctival blepharoplasty;
• the main disadvantages of the method of transconjunctival blepharoplasty.
The main advantages of the method of transconjunctival blepharoplasty
The main advantages and benefits of transconjunctival blepharoplasty over other eyelid correction methods include:
• a large number of indications: with the help of transconjunctival blepharoplasty, it is possible to eliminate such problems as a hernia of the lower eyelid, stretching of the skin of the periorbital region, ptosis of the eyelid and the formation of bags under the eyes;
• low risk of complications after surgery: the choice of this particular method of correcting eyelid defects minimizes the risk of severe edema, bruising, scarring and eversion of the eyelid after surgery;
• short and easy rehabilitation period: the minimal trauma of transconjunctival blepharoplasty makes this method unique.
The absence of sutures makes it possible to avoid tissue scarring and some other postoperative complications, and the patient will need no more than 7-10 days for a full recovery.
The main disadvantages of the method of transconjunctival blepharoplasty
The disadvantages of transconjunctival blepharolplasty are not so many, however, they also exist. The main disadvantages of the method include:
• this method cannot be called a universal way to correct eyelid imperfections, since it is not able to cope with some problems that traditional blepharoplasty easily solves. For example, access through the conjunctiva will not eliminate ptosis of the stretched skin of the lower eyelid, which occurs quite often after 40-45 years;
• The sutureless eyelid correction method gives a short-term effect that lasts for several years, while traditional blepharoplasty allows you to achieve a much more long-term effect.
Transconjunctival blepharoplasty – it is a gentle eyelid correction method that can effectively correct common problems such as bags under the eyes or drooping eyelids.
At the same time, some disadvantages of this method make it less effective than traditional blepharoplasty. After weighing all the indications, contraindications and individual wishes of the patient, the specialist will be able to choose the method of eyelid correction that is best suited to achieve the best results.
