Lips – one of the fundamental elements of facial attractiveness, especially in women. Full, symmetrical and proportional lips are a sign of youth and beauty. Therefore, lip contouring, which is most often performed with hyaluronic acid fillers, has maintained a leading position in the list of the most popular aesthetic procedures for several decades. Accordingly, almost every esthetician knows one or more non-surgical lip correction techniques that he uses in practice. Dr. Tom van Eijk, drawing on his own experience, developed the tenting technique for lip contouring with hyaluronic acid fillers, which, according to the author, allows you to get the most natural correction results and meet the requirements of modern patients. Description and advantages of this technique are given in the article estet-portal.com.

Anatomy and signs of youthful lips
One of the signs of youthfulness of the lips, which is preserved in patients aged 15 & ndash; 25 years, – a white ridge of the upper lip, which is in an elevated position at the level of the canines, the so-called incisal arch. Therefore, many patients wish to restore this feature, lost with age, through contouring.

The anatomy of the lips is quite complex – they are covered with skin and several types of mucous membrane, in which they are "clothed"; muscles and adipose tissue. The labial arteries pass through the muscle tissue, the course of which can vary.
Canine arc – incisal arch, white roll – white roller, vermillion border – border of the red border of the lips, philtrum – filtrum
As the lips age, muscles and adipose tissue lose their volume, skin elasticity decreases, which leads to structural and visible changes in the lips. The contouring procedure allows you to restore your lips to their former youth.
Hyaluronic acid fillers for lip contouring
The vast majority of lip augmentation procedures are performed using hyaluronic acid fillers. The physical and biological effects of HA administration depend not only on the properties of the filler, but also on the place of product deposition:
- Injected into subdermal fat or muscle tissue, hyaluronic acid will act as a filler, giving shape and volume to the tissues.
- Closer to the dermis hyaluronic acid acts as a booster for the skin and improves the quality of the interstitial tissue and the transport of nutrients in the dermis.
- More superficial intradermal administration of the substance will result in an increase in the elasticity of the dermis.
Linear techniques for the introduction of hyaluronic acid fillers for lip augmentation
A simple and popular technique for lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid filler is to linearly inject the gel with a cannula or needle parallel to the red border of the lips. However, the author is not a supporter of these techniques for two reasons:
- longitudinal bolus filler is prone to displacement, especially in such a mobile area as lips;
- filling the red border of the lips can cause unnatural results – duck lips – by blurring the clear contours of the curves at the level of the incisors.
Therefore, in practice, the doctor often uses the
In 2005, the author developed the "tenting" technique; for lip augmentation in order to
solve several problems at the same time:
"expand" red mucous part of the lips and make it more open;- raise and sharpen the white roller.

To
emphasize the white ridge, all entry points are located on a collagen-rich line. The beginning of each injection is deep – this minimizes the chance of too shallow positioning and visualization of BG boluses.
In the upper lipthe projection starts at the corners of the mouth and reaches its peak at the end of the filtrum. For most lower lips, the natural projection starts a few millimeters from the corners of the mouth and continues to the middle of the lip. To get a natural result, you must take into account the differences in the shape of the upper and lower lips.
Each injection increases the volume in the deep plane, the projection in the direction of the contour and the elasticity of the "shell"; lips, as well as a white roller. Each bolus of hyaluronic acid forms a kind of "tent pole" that projects a white bead without the need to directly fill it, hence the technique is called "tenting".
