The middle third of the face is located between the lower eyelid and the nasolabial fold. It consists of a bone base (zygomatic and maxillary bones), on which two fatty layers are located in the zygomatic zone (deep fat layer and superficial fatty body of the cheeks). Between these two layers is the circular muscle of the eye. These structural elements are covered by a skin membrane.

The face is mobile: it creates expressions and is constantly in motion. There is a so-called "triangle of youth". On a young face, the zygomatic bones are set high and well defined, the jaw line is also distinct, and together they form an inverted triangle. However, with age, this triangle is distorted as a result of loss of volume and sagging; the triangle of youth disappears and the aging look becomes more visible.

Fortunately, aesthetic medicine specialists have a set of tools, such as facial volumization (volumization, cheekbone correction) and/or lifting, that can restore the proportions of this triangle.

Men's skin is not as oily as women's. The reason for this lies, of course, in the hormones – testosterone levels in men compared to progesterone and estrogen levels in women. Men's skin is thicker, contains more hair and sebaceous glands, and is less prone to the formation of heliodermic wrinkles. But despite this, it also sags with age.

Skin rejuvenation with hyaluronic acid

Despite the fact that there is no "perfect filler", hyaluronic acid is the gold standard for rejuvenation of the middle third of the face.  Hyaluronic Acid Selection Criteria:

  • safety is paramount;
  • Medical criteria: Minimize the risk of side effects (allergic reactions, granuloma), good introduction into human tissue, compatibility with other technologies (past and future);
  • technical criteria: quality and predictability of the result, ease of administration, duration of the result, stability of the injection site (without getting the drug into other areas);
  • Viscosity, hardness and softness, gel consistency, one- or two-phase: all these characteristics are different for each manufacturer of hyaluronic acid;
  • The price is also important, however, it is not more important than the quality and safety of the drug.

There are several technologies for the introduction of hyaluronic acid, the choice of one or another depends on the doctor's preference, just like the choice of an instrument for the operation – needles or cannulas.

There is a reaction of the tissue, both to damage of any kind, and to the injected substance. Elastin, collagen, proteoglycans, and structural glycoproteins are produced by fibroblasts in the skin. It is known that any local reaction, be it inflammation or scarring, provoked by surgery or an injected substance, provokes the spread and stimulation of fibroblasts. It follows that the superficial administration of hyaluronic acid causes a reaction and stimulates these fibroblasts in the skin. In this regard, the amount of substances produced by fibroblasts (elastin, collagen, proteoglycans, structural glycoproteins) improve skin texture.

This stimulation may be the result of either filling with the product itself or mechanical trauma caused by the needle or cannula and may provide a slight lifting effect in addition to the moisturizing properties of the hyaluronic acid itself.

Is hyaluronic acid enough for a lifting effect?

The lifting effect is not always observed with small injections of hyaluronic acid, however, there is an improvement in the surface of the skin, its texture, radiance and hydration. To achieve a tightening effect, a significant amount of acid must be injected. Properly conducted volumization – this is a very effective way to create the look of a mini-lift.

Output

Superficial injections of hyaluronic acid make the skin more hydrated and radiant. The increase in the cheekbones and volume of the middle part of the face also has the effect of a mini-lift in addition to the effect of volumization.
