Acne continues to be an urgent problem despite the significant experience gained by dermatologists and cosmetologists in dealing with it. It can significantly reduce the quality of life for both adolescents and adults; skin defects that persist after acne are especially painful. Modern cosmetology has quite effective post-acne correction methods, one of them – redermalization.
Irina Medvedeva, Ph.D., Honored Doctor of Ukraine, President of the All-Ukrainian Association of Applied Aesthetics Specialists (Kyiv), shared the details about it with the readers of our portal.
Manifestations of skin defects after acne
Acne treatment takes a long time, is difficult and ends, unfortunately, not always with complete success. After treatment, defects remain on the patient's skin, which have the general name of post-acne: enlarged pores, impaired pigmentation, congestive hyperemic spots, dilated capillaries, scars.
Many factors influence the severity of post-acne. The most important of them – the timeliness of the start of therapy, the duration and severity of the course of the disease. The longer the disease lasts, the more severe its manifestations and consequences. The intensity of the manifestations of post-acne depends on the age of the patient, and on whether he was self-medicating. The erroneous tactics of the beautician, who recommended frequent and harsh mechanical facial cleansing, can also aggravate the manifestations.
Various endogenous and exogenous factors can worsen the course of acne and provoke relapses with worsening consequences: diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, liver and biliary tract, frequent stress, improper diet, humid hot climate. The longer the disease lasts and recurs more often, the more the resource of the skin's regenerative capabilities is depleted and the more noticeable are the manifestations of post-acne. To correct it, it is necessary to take into account the duration and effectiveness of the previous treatment, the duration of the disease and its relapses, factors provoking exacerbations, the presence of concomitant diseases.
Methods for correcting skin defects after acne
Post-acne correction requires the development of an individual plan for each patient, which will combine different methods of exposure to the skin. Of course, an important part of the complex correction should be the normalization of the functions of the gastrointestinal tract, endocrine glands, the development of a diet.
Modern aesthetic medicine has an extensive arsenal of post-acne correction techniques: mechanical and hardware cleansing, various types of peelings, injection procedures and hardware cosmetology.
Some treatments for post-acne therapy
Procedure |
Purpose of the event |
What helps you achieve |
Mechanical cleaning |
Evacuation of excess accumulation of secretions from the excretory ducts of the sebaceous glands, removal of open and closed comedones |
The skin texture is evened out, the orifices of the excretory ducts of the sebaceous glands are reduced |
Massages (primarily Jacquet's massage) |
Normalization of the tone of the bodies of the sebaceous glands |
Regulation of sebum secretion, reduction of the orifices of the excretory ducts, smoothing the skin texture |
Therapeutic masks |
Drying, disinfecting, resolving, vasoconstrictive action |
The number of inflammatory elements decreases, the manifestation of stagnant spots softens, the color and texture of the skin improves |
Peelings |
Controlled removal of a certain number of skin layers |
Alignment of skin color and texture, normalization of sebum secretion, reduction of the orifices of the excretory ducts of the sebaceous glands |
Medicinal therapy with antibiotics, retinoids, local anti-inflammatory drugs is widely used in the complex correction of post-acne. It is aimed at reducing the production of sebum, reducing inflammation, eliminating comedones. The sooner appropriate treatment is started, the lower the risk of acne scarring.
Depending on the indications, complex therapy includes cryomassage, electro- and phonophoresis, microcurrents, darsonvalization, laser and other hardware techniques.
Since the inflammatory process in acne affects the dermal layer, where the sebaceous gland is located, then for successful correction of post-acne it is necessary to restore the full functions of the dermis. This is done by intradermal injections – redermalization procedures.
Peculiarities of redermalization procedure for skin recovery after acne
Chronic inflammatory process in acne depletes the vital resource of the cells of the dermis, worsens the flow of metabolic processes. Simply stimulating fibroblasts to start cell renewal may not be enough, as they are exhausted and need additional energy. Such energy can be provided by the active ingredient of Hyalual® preparations; sodium succinate. Thanks to the synergy of succinate and hyaluronic acid – the second component of the preparations, you can get a fairly quick therapeutic effect on the skin.
After acne, the skin usually suffers from foci of congestive hyperemia, gaping orifices of the excretory ducts of the sebaceous glands, poorly healed scars. Thanks to the use of succinate, it is possible to achieve an even relief, narrow pores, and improve complexion.
Properties of substances in preparations for redermalization
Sodium succinate |
Hyaluronic acid |
– skin restoration; – antioxidant protection; – blocking free radicals; – increased cellular respiration; – stimulation of ATP production; – increased synthesis of collagen and elastin; – improvement of microcirculation; – activation of the synthesis of hyaluronic acid; – stimulation of fibroblast proliferation |
– elimination of skin dehydration; – replenishment of hyaluronic acid deficiency in tissues; – participation in the formation of the intercellular matrix; – ensuring selective permeability of cell membranes; – maintenance of intercellular and cellular homeostasis |
Hyalual®
Technique. The bottom of the scar is first separated by pendulum movements of the needle tip, then the drug is injected into the pocket formed. The introduction is carried out intradermally papularly along the massage lines.
Choice of remedy. Hyalual® preparations are used for correction; at a concentration of 1.1% or 1.8%. The first session is best done with Hyalual® 1.1%: at this concentration, the papules regress faster, but in any case they resolve in 24-48 hours. Sessions are performed once every 2 weeks. Number of sessions – 4 to 6.
Once the Hyalual® treatment has started in the skin, it is important to maintain the effect with the right daily home care products, proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle in order to get a good effect of healing the skin after acne.
