Загар после инъекций ботулотоксина: разрешить или запретить пациенту

Beginning of summer – this is a very active period for aesthetic medicine specialists, because, on the eve of the holiday season, patients enroll in large numbers for beauty treatments. Among them – The botulinum therapy procedure is especially in demand and popular. It is not surprising, because every girl wants to look perfect in summer photos near the sea coast, and wrinkles do not contribute to this in any way. Fortunately, botulinum toxin injections are effective in resolving this problem.

However, the question immediately arises – Is it possible to allow patients to tan after botulinum toxin therapy. Read the answer to it in today's article.

Sunburn after botulinum toxin injections: what are the pros and cons

Sunburn after botulinum toxin injections – this is a rather controversial issue.

On the one hand, unfortunately, it will not be possible to find strict protocols prohibiting or allowing tanning after botulinum therapy.

In addition, if the patient is injecting botulinum toxin just before the vacation – I don't want to categorically ban him from tanning. On the other hand, specialists in aesthetic medicine, even in the absence of unequivocal recommendations, have many years of experience, which often speaks of the negative effects of sunburn after botulinum toxin injections. What risks exist in this case, and what causes them – we will analyze in this material.

Sunburn after botulinum therapy:

  • Is tanning allowed after botulinum toxin injections;
  • what to do if sunburn cannot be avoided after botulinum toxin injections.

Is tanning allowed after botulinum toxin injections

First of all, it should be noted that there is no single answer to this question. There are several botulinum toxin preparations on the aesthetic medicine market today, and their manufacturers do not give strict recommendations on the issue of tanning after botulinum therapy. However, specialists performing this procedure often recommend that their patients avoid sunburn for 10-15 days after botulinum toxin injections. This is due to several reasons at once:

  • Firstly, exposure to high temperatures negatively affects the healing process after injection procedures, and recovery can be delayed for several weeks. It is for this reason that experts also recommend refraining from visiting baths, saunas, solariums, and so on;
  • secondly, ultraviolet rays to some extent affect the composition of injectable drugs, and therefore, their effectiveness is reduced;
  • besides, after any injections, it is not recommended, for some time, to apply cosmetics to the skin of the face, including sunscreens, and this fact, in itself, implies a ban on tanning.

What to do if sunburn after botulinum toxin injections cannot be avoided

Despite all the above factors that determine the existing ban on tanning after botulinum toxin injections, it is not uncommon for patients to sign up for botulinum therapy just before the start of the holiday season.

In the event that sunburn after botulinum toxin injections is still unavoidable, the patient should be advised to avoid direct sunlight on the skin at the injection sites as much as possible.

For this, ideally, it is necessary to be in the shade during the sunny time of the day, and when going outside – wear a wide-brimmed hat that protects the face from ultraviolet radiation. Such actions will be quite enough to protect the patient's face from the negative effects of sunburn after botulinum toxin injections.

– The well-known recommendation limiting the patient's exposure to the sun can hardly be maintained in the conditions of the modern rhythm of life, and is rather of a traditional advisory character. Associated, first of all, with the fact that every specialist can observe in their practice: in the summer, during the period of active insolation, the duration of the effect of botulinum toxin can be significantly reduced, which, according to many experts, is primarily due to the acceleration of metabolic processes in summer period.

It is rather difficult to talk about the negative effect of the sun on the injection zone, since, as a rule, we do not normally observe a post-injection inflammatory reaction. The tanning procedure also cannot have an effect on the diffusion of the drug, unless, of course, the patient goes to the beach immediately from the cosmetologist's office, because the interaction with SNAP-25 receptors of the botulinum toxin molecule occurs already during the first day after the injection.

In my opinion, it is absolutely enough to use the most banal hygiene measures that prevent post-injection inflammation, and a remedy with an SPF factor has not harmed anyone yet.
