The curvature of the nose has many causes, but which this defect could develop, but the patient always has one desire – correct this shortcoming.
It's not even always that the curvature of the nose looks unaesthetic. A deviated nasal septum or deformity of the back of the nose often causes nasal breathing disorders, the development of diseases of the respiratory system, causes snoring, and causes problems of social adaptation. Plastic surgeries to correct the shape of the nose and nasal septum are in high demand among patients.
Why do patients get deviated nose
Sometimes, a deviated nose is a family feature of appearance, passed down between generations of relatives, but more often it happens due to injuries, uneven bone growth in adolescence, and past diseases associated with a decrease in calcium in the body. Usually, a deviated nose is manifested by the presence of a hump (deformity of the back of the nose) or a deviated septum.
An indication for surgical intervention is a violation of the proportions of the nose or its symmetry. The nasal septum divides the nasal cavity into two naturally unequal parts. BUT, when the shape of the nose is deformed, the septum can change the configuration of the cavities even more, acquire thickenings, protrusions, bends and complicate nasal breathing even more.
Consequences that a deviated nose can cause
The curvature of the nose can be so severe that it completely shuts off nasal breathing and requires immediate surgical intervention. In addition, due to the curvature of the nose, there are:
- nosebleeds;
- headaches;
- chronic rhinosinusitis, otitis media.
These reasons become an indication for rhinoplasty, which is designed to correct the shape of the nose and, if necessary, straighten the nasal septum.
Peculiarities of surgical correction of nasal curvature
In case of significant nasal breathing disorder caused by nasal curvature, the age of the patient for surgical intervention is determined individually. Aesthetic correction of the shape of the nose is performed in patients over 18 years of age.
Rhinoplasty for various types of its curvature involves straightening the nasal partitions, elimination of the hump, convergence of the lateral bones of the nose. The essence of the correction is that the skin part of the nasal septum is cut, the mucous membranes are exfoliated, cartilage and bone structures are aligned, then sutures are applied and tampons are inserted to prevent bleeding.
The patient should be warned that he will be deprived of nasal breathing for several days while tampons remain in the nose. After the operation, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory therapy is prescribed, after the removal of tampons, the nasal passages are cleaned from dried crusts. Nasal breathing will be restored in about two weeks, when the swelling subsides and the formation of crusts in the nasal passages stops. The patient is recommended to take liquid non-hot food during the week after the operation, during the month – refusal of physical activity.
