Pain is the main clinical symptom of many diseases, in particular infectious ones. Due to the fact that many infectious diseases entail intoxication of the body and fever, pain – constant companion of such diseases.

Sore throat

Such a symptom as a sore throat is a characteristic sign of such infectious diseases as:

  • pharyngitis;
  • laryngitis;
  • listeriosis.

In addition, the throat may hurt due to the presence of rotavirus infections or alimentary streptococcal infections. The development of the inflammatory process may indicate the return of pain in the ear.

Headaches (pain in the forehead)

Forehead pain is a sure sign of infectious diseases. This symptom often indicates the presence of diseases such as:

  • meningitis;
  • encephalitis;
  • malaria;
  • flu;
  • typhoid;
  • parasitic infestations.

Abdominal pain

Severe abdominal pain can be caused by food poisoning, particularly mushroom poisoning. However, pain in the abdomen often occurs with such infectious lesions of the digestive system:

  • acute dysentery;
  • leptospirosis;
  • salmonellosis;
  • viral hepatitis.

Often, abdominal pain is caused by intestinal spasm or paresis. The abdomen may ache due to enlargement of the liver or spleen, as well as swelling of the pancreas and gallbladder.

Sudden onset of abdominal pain associated with nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea – sign of food poisoning.

Pain in the lower abdomen may indicate the presence of infectious diseases such as cystitis, urethritis and prostatitis.

Chest pain

Pain in the chest – a symptom of enterovirus infections, including epidemic myalgia. Also, pain occurs in the abdomen, a headache appears, as well as discomfort in the heart.

Influenza can be indicated by scratching pains in the retrosternal region. A sign of herpes zoster is severe pain along the intercostal nerves.

Pain in the right and left hypochondrium

The appearance of pain and discomfort in the right hypochondrium may be associated with an enlarged liver. This phenomenon is provoked by viral hepatitis and inflammation of the gallbladder, cholecystitis.

If the pain is felt in the left hypochondrium — this may indicate an enlarged spleen, which is caused by viral cirrhosis, infective endocarditis, visceral leishmaniasis, malaria.
