Keratosis: cosmetic defect and its treatment

The beauty and health of our skin largely depends on how we take care of it. But some defects can appear regardless of the degree of skin care. One such defect is keratosis. We will tell you about it today.

What is keratosis and what does it look like

Keratosis or keratoderma is a group of benign formations on the human body. They appear as seals in the stratum corneum of the epidermis. To date, all keratoses are divided into two forms:

  • purchased;
  • hereditary.

Each of them has its own types and manifestations.

Manifestations of keratosis

There are many manifestations of this formation. This is how keratosis can manifest itself:

  • in the form of plaques;
  • in the form of a thickening of the skin layer on the palms, feet;
  • in the form of seborrhea.

Often, plaques form from a pigment spot. At first, the spot may be almost invisible, but gradually it begins to darken and turns into a keratotic plaque. Subsequently, the disease begins to migrate and manifest itself in different parts of the body. Mainly on the neck, back and face.

What types of keratosis exist

There is follicular keratosis which can create a "chicken skin" effect. It manifests itself in the form of small dense nodules. These nodules spread in a rash of white and red over the back and sides of the thighs, buttocks, back, and shoulders. Usually such rashes appear in early childhood and completely disappear only in adulthood.

There is another special type - it is senile keratosis. It is formed mainly in elderly people due to age-related skin changes. So, at first, pigment spots of a gray tint appear on the skin, which subsequently become larger and become covered with a dense ball of the epidermis. This type of keratosis can develop into a malignant neoplasm, so it should be removed.

Causes of keratosis

To date, the exact occurrence of the cause of keratosis is unknown. The only reliable reason is hereditary predisposition. Also, the possible reasons for the development of this defect include the following factors:

  • intense solar exposure;
  • work with hazardous substances;
  • manifestation of internal diseases.

It is worth noting that ordinary keratosis is not prone to malignancy and is usually just a cosmetic defect. Moreover, if internal problems have become the cause of keratosis, then its cosmetic removal will not help solve the root cause.

Available modern methods of treatment of keratosis

For the treatment of keratosis, various methods are used, depending on the type of defect and the extent of the affected area. So with a small lesion, I use electrocoagulation or cryosurgery. Horny age spots are removed with a laser or radio wave procedure.

If a large area of the skin is affected, then the treatment of keratosis is carried out with the help of chemical peeling. For this, a special peeling composition is selected, which removes keratinized skin and evens out the relief. Recently, more and more often they began to use hydrodembrazia - a method of exfoliating dead cells with water.

    На всех последних мировых дерматологических конгрессах кератоз определяется не как эстетическая проблема, а как начальная стадия рака кожи. С соответствующей тактикой: диагностикой - дермаскопией, способами ударения и опять диагностикой ( патоморфологической).
