I was once asked how I feel about beauty pageants. I did not know what to answer, and decided to make inquiries, get acquainted with the literature. To be honest, the problem of beauty worried me for a long time, since among my patients there were a lot of beautiful people with an unfortunate fate.
And every time I remembered the proverb "don't be born beautiful, but be born happy". Why is a beautiful person usually unhappy? What to do so that a beautiful person does not become unhappy? Does a beautiful person have to be unhappy? What can be done to make a beautiful, but unhappy person become happy, as he should by his nature? And finally, what should an ugly person do to become beautiful? I believe that it is possible to become beautiful.
I think I have found some answers.
History of beauty pageants
Let's talk about beauty pageants. The first such competition was held in Ancient Greece. What did it lead to?
It was on Olympus, when the gods gathered at the next party. And so that everything was quiet, peaceful and fun, they decided not to call the scandalous goddess of Discord. But she did find out about the party. The gods were having fun, but in the midst of the fun, someone threw a beautiful apple to the gods, on which was written "for the most beautiful."
Zeus, the supreme god, understood the danger of this enterprise - to choose the most beautiful among the goddesses. Who wants to make enemies? Prize is one. You can get only one ally, and enemies ... Wise Zev refused to accept this decision. He entrusted this matter to people who even then, in their vanity, were trying to become higher than the gods. Now there are a lot of them.
Zeus sent three pretenders to court to the son of the king of Troy, Paris.
Zeus addressed Hermes:
— Take this apple and turn to the son of Priam, who tends the flock in the mountains of Ida, on Gargar. Tell him this: “You, Paris, Zeus instructs you to judge the goddesses arguing about which of them is the most beautiful. You yourself are handsome and versed in matters of love, for which you were sent to the pasture. Let the one who wins the dispute receive this apple. But only in such a way that the two losers do not get angry with me and see this only as a mistake of my eyes.
Paris was glad that he had the honor to choose the most beautiful of the goddesses, but blinded by their beauty, he could not decide. Noticing his confusion, the goddesses were not at a loss and began to offer him their "gifts". That is, one appearance was not enough.
What did it lead to?
As a result, Paris chose Aphrodite, who promised him the love of the beautiful Helen. The result of his decision was a twenty-year siege of Troy, which ended in its destruction. Scientists still cannot determine for sure whether it existed. And what decision would a prepared person make in such a case, if it would be impossible to refuse the role of a judge? He would have relied on the will of fate - he would have cast lots.
But back to the problem of beauty. Indeed, educators, writers, poets and psychologists emphasize that it is easier for a beautiful person, other things being equal, to achieve what he wants in life. It has been noted that a beautiful Person seems to be at the same time a bearer of high moral qualities, although this is often not the case.
And yet, why are beautiful people often unhappy?
The concept of beauty is closely related to human activities. A refined, physically weak aristocrat will seem like an ugly hard worker to a peasant, and she is of no use to him in the household. And the aristocrat herself often considers a strong and handsome peasant to be a rude dork. But if her taste is not completely spoiled, then nevertheless a strong man will be perceived by her as handsome.
The perception of beauty also depends on the appearance of the perceiver of beauty. Lean people often like plump ones, hook-nosed ones like snub-nosed ones, and brunettes like blondes. The pattern is as follows: a person likes those qualities that he himself is deprived of. With seeming freedom of choice, this choice largely depends on our biology. It is essential for survival that different genetic properties come together. That's why girls quite often like foreigners. And no matter what we say about patriotism, women will always like conquerors. And don't moralize. They are liked not because they are conquerors, but because they are unlike their own. All this ultimately enriches the gene pool. And the custom of the peoples of the Far North, who give up their wife to a guest for the night, is not so stupid and wild.
Appearance is closely related to temperament. People who tend to be overweight often have a sanguine temperament. If they lose weight, then they will give a sign to their future partner not only about their constitution, but also about their temperament. And now you can't change it. If there is no complement in temperament, the family is guaranteed frequent scandals.
Let's see how things are with our smaller animal brothers. After all, there are beautiful at the same time and the most powerful. True, the animals themselves do not realize this. It's just that life makes them fight for existence, and those who win seem to be the most attractive to individuals of the opposite sex.
But let's get back to the concept of human beauty. The standard of beauty is quite radically influenced by fashion, and the decision of the judges, who depend on their own tastes and momentary needs. The same is true in our life. We make quick, drastic decisions without realizing it.
I don't know if I answered the question of how to become beautiful.
For me, this answer sounds like this: "Get smart, and you will be beautiful."
