Magdalina Al-Nagash: “Do not be afraid to contact a beautician! The main thing is to choose a real professional”

Магдалина Аль-Нагаш: «Не бойтесь обращаться к косметологу! Главное – выбрать настоящего профессионала»

Every woman dreams of staying young and beautiful longer - this statement is unlikely to cause controversy. But what measures should be taken to slow down the aging process – there are many opinions. Some believe that home care should be preferred, because they do not trust cosmetologists, others – we are ready to try on ourselves all the injection and hardware innovations available in the nearest beauty salon.

How do you make a smart choice? When should you contact a cosmetologist and what are the criteria for choosing a professional who will help preserve youth and beauty? Read an exclusive interview for estet-portal readers about these and many other questions. com from Magdalina Al-Nagash, maxillofacial surgeon, specialist in aesthetic medicine, chief physician of the NUCUCosmetic Laser and Hardware Cosmetology Center, president of the All-Ukrainian Association of Applied Aesthetics Specialists (Kharkiv), member of ISD (USA), member of the DASIL Association (USA).

Ed. At what age should a woman turn to a beautician to keep her youth?

M.A-N. You should contact as soon as a woman notices wrinkles on her face. To date, according to international data, skin aging has been noted since the age of 23, and this is evidenced by prominent European scientists, whose opinion is worth trusting.

This process is provoked by damaging environmental factors contained in the atmosphere, unbalanced nutrition, smoking, which do not have a beneficial effect on us. It's no secret that people didn't age so quickly in the past. Many women say: my grandmother has such beautiful skin and she never did anything, she didn’t go to a beautician and doesn’t advise me. And they are right. Our grandmothers and mothers are more fortunate with the environment and food.

The second important factor influencing the aging process is genetics.  A certain genetic code is transmitted to each person by genus, on which the timing of skin aging depends, and if an early aging process is programmed, nothing can be done about it. You need to contact a beautician without delay, and no creams will save you. Believe me, creams have a very superficial effect on a certain  skin structure – The epidermis is the most superficial layer of the skin. And only creams that contain acids – glycolic, retinoic - can help improve the quality of the dermis.

It is necessary to contact a professional cosmetologist in order to prevent aging.

But asking for help when deep wrinkles are already visible is a bit too late. There is such an opinion among our patients – the later you go to the beautician, the better. So, this is a completely erroneous opinion.

On the contrary, it is easier and cheaper for the patient to deal with the prevention of aging than when he has already waited for deep wrinkles and creases of the skin on the face.

Creases – this is usually a consequence of the manifestation of gravitational ptosis, when the face is already  hanging, and wrinkles are most often mimic – around the eyes, in the area between the eyebrows, around the mouth. They are superficial, they are easier to clean than creases. Therefore, do not be afraid to contact a beautician early to prevent skin aging. Main – choose a professional beautician.

Red. How deep does the skin need to be treated to keep it looking young? Isn't it dangerous?

M.A-N. Many patients think that – This is a fairly deep effect on the skin. I want to immediately clarify a little: a deep effect on the skin – it's not just injections. There are many procedures – for example, with the use of ablative and non-ablative lasers - when aged skin needs to be cut off, figuratively speaking, in order to give rise to young cells. This is a profound impact.

As for the safety  of injections and all other procedures, it is ensured by the qualification of a specialist. Moreover, this should be a doctor, and not just a care cosmetologist who makes masks or even some hardware procedures. You need to choose, of course, a competent doctor who already has at least a few years of experience.

Ed. What questions from a beautician will immediately allow a patient to understand – is it in the hands of a professional?

M.A-N. The first thing a cosmetologist should do – ask about the patient's well-being: perhaps he is worried about a sore throat or a runny nose, a periodically rising temperature, or some other discomfort. The fact is that often such symptoms   manifest a respiratory viral infection, and this is a direct indication to postpone the procedure until the patient has fully recovered.

It's better not to touch anything! Such a patient cannot even be massaged. Moreover, I will tell you that even a bath is not allowed. But not everyone understands this and not everyone follows the doctor's recommendations.

Next, the cosmetologist must collect the patient's medical history. First of all, he asks about the presence of allergic reactions, not only to medications, but also to food. The fact is that often there is a layering of certain states. And  if a person suffers from certain common chronic diseases, then after the procedure, he can  to happen an exacerbation, which is not always caused by the manipulation of a beautician, just coincidentally.

The doctor will ask questions about the presence of autoimmune diseases, about the features of blood clotting– normal or not normal, because for injections of beauty and youth, it is very important to understand how the blood coagulation system works in a person, otherwise you can get big problems with mesotherapy injections.

Oncological diseases in certain stages also have contraindications.

Pregnancy, lactation – direct contraindications to aesthetic procedures.

In addition, many general indications, acute cardiovascular diseases, stroke and pre-stroke conditions – there are a lot of important factors that you need to ask the patient a question about in order to understand the likely risks. And only after this survey, evaluate the skin and all the options for what can be done for safe rejuvenation.

Ed. Is it possible to combine injection and hardware procedures to preserve youth? Will this speed up the aging process?

M.A-N. Such procedures are not only possible, but also necessary to be combined. I just want to mention this erroneous opinion about different procedures - a combination of methods will never speed up, but, on the contrary, slow down the aging process and even return the state, appearance a few years ago, to youth.

In order to enhance the process of rejuvenation, sometimes injections alone are not enough.  Roughly speaking, old cells should be removed – cut, get rid of them. Translated from English, the word «peeling» – it's a cleansing. It is done either with chemical peels, or fruity, medium trichloroacetic or very deep phenolic.

And the so-called negative stimulation – that is, we remove old skin cells. But with injections, we can help young cells  grow so that the skin is dense, firm, elastic – had all the characteristics of youth. And injections will also help speed up healing after peels and hardware procedures.

I want to remind you that hardware cosmetology has stepped far forward. There are a lot of devices today that are absolutely safe, effective,  which do not give visible side effects such as peeling, redness, burning. Although the greater the damage to the skin, the greater its rejuvenation.

There is an expression among cosmetologists: the larger the defect, the better the effect. Therefore, you absolutely need to know: you must not only not be afraid to combine techniques, but  be sure to do it.
