Problems with finding and keeping a job may depend on various factors, personality traits of an individual and external circumstances beyond our control. However, there is something that interferes with work and is a completely surmountable obstacle – procrastination.

What is procrastination

Procrastination – This is a constant postponing of important things for later. At the same time, the procrastinator differs from the lazy person in that he actually wants to perform the necessary action, but cannot force himself to do it.
A person who leaves everything for the last moment harms himself incredibly: he is subjected to unnecessary worries, stress, and reduces work efficiency.

As a result, procrastinators are often not successful in work and life in general. Can you beat procrastination? Fortunately, the answer to this question is yes.

How to get rid of procrastination

We bring to your attention as many as 11 strategies that you can safely apply to defeat procrastination:

1. Ask yourself "why am I not procrastinating EVEN MORE?". For example, you can answer: "Because I'm afraid of becoming a rogue" or “Because he will leave me wife”. Often times the reasons you provide will seem the most compelling to you and give you an incentive to resist procrastination.

2.Talk "with an angel on your shoulder": how do you justify your procrastination? If you just do not feel like doing this or that thing, then think about what is actually more reasonable – put it off or do it anyway?

3. Change the basic principle. Many procrastinators work according to the principle "Work as little as possible". They seek pleasure at the cost of minimal productivity. Even if it doesn't get them fired, they don't realize how important productivity is in life.

4. Procrastinate consciously. When you're about to procrastinate, ask yourself, is it worth sacrificing the long-term benefits of a job well done for short-term pleasure? For example, by completing a job, you reduce the risk of being fired, gaining a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment from a useful and well-done task.

5. Force yourself to complete the first second task, even if it is turning on the computer. Then do the second one-second task. Often the most difficult – start.

6. In case of difficulty, take one minute to fight. Unfortunately, if you have not done anything by then, it is useless to fight procrastination. You will only strengthen it. So if you come across an obstacle that you can't overcome in a minute, try asking for help or see if you can handle the task without solving the problem.

7. Find a fun way to get the job done. Since procrastinators prefer the pleasure of responsibility, a great way to combat procrastination is to identify a fun and interesting way to get the job done. When choosing a job, you need to think about what career will be the most fun and interesting for you and at the same time realistic.

8. Remember that if you don't try, you are guaranteed to achieve nothing. If you don't try, to keep your reputation "I could succeed if I tried" hellip;”, ask yourself if it's worth the price of guaranteed failure.

9. Break the whole task into small parts. While this is probably not the first time you've heard this advice, most people, especially procrastinators, are more likely to complete tasks when broken down into smaller chunks. And what a pleasure it will be for you to constantly cross off completed tasks from your to-do list!

10. Technique “Promodoro”. This technique gets its name from tomato-shaped kitchen timers (promodoro is the Italian word for tomato). So, the essence of the promotional technique is that a person starts a timer for 20 minutes, works until the bell rings, and then rests for 5 minutes. Then work for another 20 minutes and rest for 5 minutes.
After the third promotion (20 minutes), the rest is 10 minutes.

11. Application “To-Do List”. Nowadays, there are many different applications for all kinds of devices that are designed to compile a list of must-do tasks. You can try!
