Откровенно о маммопластике: интервью с известным пластическим хирургом

Mammoplasty – one of the most relevant and sought-after cosmetic surgeries in the world. The goal of breast surgery may be to increase or decrease the size of the breast, correct the shape or lift the mammary glands. Like any other surgical procedure, mammoplasty raises many questions and concerns: how to choose a plastic surgeon, how much does mammoplasty cost, which implants are better and safer, how is recovery after surgery, in what cases the doctor may refuse to perform the procedure etc.

These questions are answered in an interview for estet-portac.com by Evgeny Donets – surgeon of the highest category, plastic surgeon with more than 15 years of practical experience.

What are the criteria for beautiful breasts and which implants are best for mammoplasty

ED: The generally accepted criterion for an aesthetically attractive breast is the ratio of its upper and lower poles 45/55%. However, these criteria are conditional, since the needs of all patients are different. In addition, each plastic surgeon has his own style.

As far as breast implants are concerned, they are divided into several categories. For example, the shape of the implants are round and anatomical. In turn, anatomical implants can have a low, high, round base, etc. They can be soft, dense, with a coarse or fine texture, polyurethane coating – there are overe 900 types of implants. At the examination stage, the doctor determines which breast implant to choose, based on the desired result, and offers the patient a maximum of 1 & ndash; 2 options.

The price of breast implants varies from 1000 to 1500 euros, but it does not affect the cost of mammoplasty. There is a fixed cost for the work, the main purpose of which is – beautiful breasts.

How to choose a plastic surgeon for mammoplasty to avoid complications

ED: When choosing a plastic surgeon who will perform mammoplasty, it is important to find out about the availability of specialized education, work experience, get acquainted with photos before and after breast surgery on the website and on social networks, patient reviews.

It is important to understand that the more a plastic surgeon works, the more he/she faces the complications of breast plastic surgery. This applies to even the most reputable and experienced doctors. Due to undesirable consequences, the patient may have an element of distrust in the doctor and she turns to another specialist.

There are no complications for those who do not operate. The question is how competent a plastic surgeon is to solve them.

However, there are also unscrupulous surgeons who, for example, have not received the necessary education. In such cases, it is necessary to remove the implants, the patient undergoes a long rehabilitation, several stages of lipofilling, and only after that new implants are installed.

Some surgeons prefer not to talk about complications because for many it's just business. Any patient before the operation signs a contract that lists all possible complications. There are a lot of them, but the likelihood of them is minimal.

How developed is domestic plastic surgery and which breast plastic surgeries are the most in demand

ED: The plastic surgeons I know not only keep up with the times, but also operate much more accurately than foreign colleagues. The matter is that our patients are more exacting, the competition is high also. Every good plastic surgeon values their patients, and every little thing is important for them - from linen to wound dressing.

As for the popularity of mammoplasty, arthroplasty used to be the most requested procedure, and now they turn to me more for breast lifts.

How to remove scars after mammoplasty

ED: A scar forms after any operation, whether it is arthroplasty, breast lift or breast reduction. The question is how noticeable it is. I don't like very pronounced scarring and refer patients to laser resurfacing specialists if necessary. If there is an indication for surgical correction of the scar after mammoplasty, I recommend that patients agree to the procedure, because it is very important for me, as well as for the patient, that the breast looks good. When scars are corrected, the adapted tissues stretched by the implant heal better and easier, and the patient does not get out of the usual rhythm of life.

Also, some specialists are engaged in permanent tattooing of scars. This is a very interesting and effective technique that gives good results.

How long does it take to heal after mammoplasty

ED: After arthroplasty, when the implants are inserted through a small incision, on the second day we close the surface of the wound with glue. It is important to understand that we do not glue the seam: the wound is sutured, and its surface is covered with glue. After 2-3 weeks, the suture is removed. This is an absolutely painless process, which sometimes happens completely unnoticed by the patient.

The suture is removed 2–3 weeks after mammoplasty.

Healing after a breast lift also takes 2–3 weeks. In this case, many stitches are applied that are not removed. The surface of the wound is covered with a plaster, as it must be constantly monitored.

Protocol requires medical compression stockings to be worn for 4 weeks. Its main tasks – create compression of the gland tissues, press them to the implant in order to avoid additional edema. Plus, a special harness fixes the upper implants so that they are not pushed up by muscle force .

Does the implant affect pregnancy and breastfeeding

ED: The presence of a breast implant does not affect pregnancy and lactation.

ED: However, in order to preserve the aesthetic result of mammoplasty, we recommend that patients do not plan pregnancy for a year after the operation. If the implant is not heavy, it is likely that the breast will not expand. However, pregnancy after mammoplasty can lead to displacement or ptosis of the implant.

Can an allergic reaction occur after mammoplasty?

ED: In my practice, there were no cases of allergic reactions. Before surgery, it is important to carefully collect the patient's history. If there is an allergy to a certain anesthetic or antibiotic, drugs of another group can be used. I have never seen an allergy to breast implants. However, such cases have been encountered in world practice, they are associated with the characteristics of the patient's immune system.
