Как страхи людей влияют на жизнь: методы борьбы с опасениями

We are all afraid of something. Fear — it is an innate emotion, the basic tool of evolution for the preservation of the biological species. It governs our actions, influences decision-making. Throughout the history of mankind, people's fears have allowed them to survive in difficult conditions. It is impossible to live and not be afraid of anything. But you can, and sometimes you need to, control your fears. Especially if they interfere with development and move forward.

How fear affects our life

Fears can be congenital and acquired. When we startle by a loud sound or sudden movement — these are reflexes dictated by an innate sense of fear. It also makes us look around in the dark, stay away from moving cars, etc.  This is "good" fear that helps prevent life-threatening situations.

Nature provides the opportunity to "learn" fears. There are different dangers in different conditions, which means you need to remember the negative experience and try to avoid such scenarios in the future. However, people's fears are not always for the good. So, excessive experiences of some minor unpleasant episode can develop into a phobia — an excessive sense of fear that does not correspond to real danger. Some phobias (such as the fear of insects) are relatively harmless. But there are also those who literally subjugate the will of a person, making it difficult to fully enjoy life.

People's fears that prevent you from moving forward

One of the most annoying and exhausting fears is the fear of the unknown. This is a  100% acquired phobia, and it manifests itself with age. Children are not afraid of the unknown, on the contrary, driven by curiosity, they tend to explore everything around and the unknown in the first place. Why when, having matured, some begin to be afraid of everything unusual, new, unknown? There are several reasons for

  • Stress. If a child has experienced some kind of trauma associated with a sharp and negative change in the quality of life (moving to a worse area, loss of a loved one, illness of a parent), he will be afraid of the future and  ;everything new.

  • Parents' fears. Feelings of anxiety are transmitted to others. If mom or dad is constantly in  fear, it is logical that the child will grow up intimidated.

  • Low self-esteem. Teenage bullying, parental pressure, conflicts in the family can lead to a constant feeling of guilt and disbelief in one's own strengths. Having matured, such a person will be afraid to take any step, considering it obviously unsuccessful.

  • Negative experience. Crisis situations, from which it was not possible to emerge victorious, can leave an imprint on for life, forcing you to abandon everything that can go wrong.

Fear of the unknown is inherent in everyone to a certain extent. But only for someone it just tickles the nerves, causing an adrenaline rush, and someone in panic clogs in the corner, not even wanting to think about the future. It is this fear that fetters the will, preventing it from moving forward, forcing you to reject new proposals, leading to lack of initiative and passivity.
