"Hands are a woman's visiting card, and her neck is her passport"... It is quite possible that Mrs. Coco Chanel, who is credited with this phrase, really considered a woman's neck a very important element of her appearance and herself, being in her advanced years, tried to elegantly drape it with scarves - after all, it is this area that often betrays the true age of a woman. But today's achievements in aesthetic surgery make it possible to correct this delicate area.

The delicacy of the cervical region is due to the specific structure of the skin - here it contains much less sebaceous glands than on the face, and the subcutaneous fat is very thin. As a result, the skin on the neck becomes dry and flabby faster, reacts especially sharply to external factors and suffers from pigmentation. In addition, the cervical muscle - platysma - loses its tone with age and begins to sag, or its edges diverge to the sides, and therefore the shape of the neck becomes very unaesthetic. Platysmaplasty is designed to correct these age-related defects.

What can platysmaplasty do?

Plastic neck lift surgery can provide the patient with the following types of appearance correction:

  • getting rid of the "double chin";
  • leveling of wrinkles and transverse furrows;
  • no sagging of the skin on the neck and the effect of divergence of the edges of the cervical muscle ("turkey neck");
  • creating a clear angle in the area where the neck joins the face;
  • return of the smooth contours of the neck.

This neck correction has a significant rejuvenating effect, the effect of which is immediately noticeable.

But platysmaplasty is usually not performed in isolation from other aesthetic facial correction surgeries, because the harmony of the appearance of the face and neck can be disturbed. If only platysmaplasty is performed, without appropriate correction of the lower third of the face, then inadequate skin tension may occur, and then the movement of skin flaps on the neck will follow incorrect vectors. To eliminate such an imbalance, experts recommend an integrated approach, when both the neck and the facial areas are corrected.

How is platysmaplasty performed?

During the preliminary consultation and planning the scope of the forthcoming platysmaplasty operation, it should be remembered that the degree of expected neck correction is always closely related to the anatomical and other individual characteristics of the patient. Therefore, on the eve of surgery, it is important to evaluate the following factors:

  • skin elasticity and the presence of adverse factors that may affect its turgor;
  • presence of excess skin and fat deposits;
  • "opening" the cervico-chin angle;
  • the shape of the chin and the degree of its development;
  • state of the anterior edges of the subcutaneous muscle of the neck, their projection, symmetry of tension, degree of sagging;
  • position and size of the submandibular salivary glands.

The essence of the operation is that the platysma is sutured or tightened in a special way, due to which age-related muscle bands are eliminated. The option of lifting and giving a new position to the cervical muscle refers to lateral platysmaplasty, and fixation of divergent muscle edges refers to medial platysmaplasty. To correct the cervico-chin angle, plastic surgery on the deeper muscles of the neck is possible.

During the operation, the surgeon makes incisions behind the ears and in the chin area, if necessary, excised excess skin, removes fat deposits accumulated under the platysma. The suturing technique must be such as to avoid tissue overstretching.

The rehabilitation period after platysmaplasty lasts 2-3 weeks. during which bruising and swelling in the cervical region are possible. The sutures are removed on the 7-10th day.

For faster recovery after platysmoplasty, you can use some medical and cosmetic procedures - such as microcurrent therapy, ultrasound, magnetotherapy. They improve blood circulation in the operated area of the neck and reduce the risk of rough scarring.

Possible complications after platysmaplasty

Like any surgical operation, platysmaplasty is not indicated for problems with the cardiovascular system and blood clotting, diabetes, oncology, exacerbated infectious diseases. In addition, platysmaplasty is not recommended if the skin on the neck has completely lost elasticity, and is not performed if there is serious damage to the skin and muscles in the neck.

Among the possible complications of platysmoplasty, it should be noted the formation of hematomas, the formation of scars at the site of postoperative sutures, and inflammatory processes. In addition, in the future, after the neck plastic surgery, the skin still loses elasticity due to age-related changes, and a second tightening may be required.

Few people know that the coveted "elixir of youth" exists, and it is nothing but our blood. Or rather, its smallest components are platelets, which carry the secrets of longevity of the skin. Platelets contain specific proteins, the so-called growth factors. These are biologically active polypeptide molecules that are responsible for the regeneration, renewal and growth of cells in our body. The properties of platelets formed the basis of plasmolifting, an innovative and absolutely safe injection method of rejuvenation using platelet-rich plasma (PRP technology):
