With the advent of heat, insects also come out of their sleep mode, which seem to be waiting for when it will be possible to crawl under a T-shirt, trousers or find a bare part of the body, into which they bite with great pleasure. It is sad that such insect bites, especially if they bite children, lead to serious consequences in the form of allergic reactions. In order to protect yourself, you need to take the advice of experts to help protect you from insect bites and prevent the occurrence of dangerous allergic reactions.
The American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology reports that insect bites are responsible for more than 1.5 million visits to dermatologists each year. Moreover, they cause at least 50 deaths per year.
According to Dr. Bill Dolen, Allergy and Immunology Specialist at Georgia Children's Hospital, the most common are bee, wasp, hornet and fire ant stings. Dr. Dolen recommends the following eight steps for avoiding insect bites:
1. Be careful when eating outdoors. Food — the main factor that attracts the attention of stinging insects. Pay attention to the storage of food: they must be covered at all times. This is one of the conditions for protection against insect bites.
2. If possible, you should avoid drinking any sugary drinks outside. Insects are attracted to sugary drinks and often hide inside various containers. It is due to the fact that people do not notice such hiding biting insects that they are often bitten by insects.
3. Seal trash cans tightly.
4. Try not to apply hygiene products with strong odors (perfume, hair sprays, colognes and deodorants) — they attract insects. One of the best ways to protect yourself from insect bites is to avoid such strong odors.
5. Try not to wear bright colors, avoid floral patterns.
6. Don't walk barefoot on the grass. Insect bites on legs — an unpleasant phenomenon, the cause of which is often the non-observance of this rule of protection against insect bites.
7. Watch for signs of stinging insects when working outside the home. For example, hornets like to build huge nests in bushes.
8. Be careful around anthills.
Even if you follow the precautions, you can still be bitten. Therefore, be aware of the signs of allergic reactions and first aid methods in case of an allergy to an insect sting.
