Nosebleeds – the spectacle is not pleasant, and it causes sensations, to put it mildly, unimportant. Nosebleeds are more common in children than in adults and are associated with irritation of the nasal membrane or trauma.

In the vast majority of cases, nosebleeds open as a result of a violation of the integrity of the vessels of the anterior part of the nose. A rarer occurrence – nosebleeds from the back, but it is this that signals danger. The most common cause of bleeding is a sudden rise in blood pressure.

  • diseases of the heart and blood vessels;

How to stop a nosebleed

Often, when nose bleeds, people reflexively throw their heads back and cover their noses with a tissue. But in no case should you do this, because this leads to swallowing and inhalation of blood, and with severe bleeding, it can cause vomiting and bronchial obstruction.

If your nose continues to bleed – sit down and tilt your head forward so that the blood flows down the wings of the nose. Relax – unbutton the belt, shirt collar or bra, let air in. If you have the opportunity – put something very cold on the bridge of your nose.

If the nosebleed cannot be stopped, press the nostril against the nasal septum for approximately 10 minutes. If there is no result, you can try to stop the bleeding from the nose by using vasoconstrictor drops, which are used for a runny nose – sanorin or naphthyzinum. The swab should be soaked in the medicine and inserted into the nasal cavity as deeply and tightly as possible.

When nosebleeds are due to dry scabs in the nose from a runny nose – lubricate the nasal cavity with oil or petroleum jelly. In case of overheating, take the person into the shade and put a cold compress in the nose area. If nose bleeds due to heatstroke – the person should be examined immediately and an ambulance called.

What not to do if you have a nosebleed:

  • take to lie down and raise your legs;

  • tilting the head back;

  • blow your nose;

  • drink strong coffee and tea.

Medical assistance will be needed if the bleeding has not stopped after 15 minutes.
