Human Resources – the task is not easy. It is especially difficult to get a full return from an employee at work. What needs to be done to increase the involvement of staff in the work?

We live in an era of non-involvement. Numerous studies have shown that about seven out of ten workers are not involved in work today. And such disinterest in work affects the productivity and, accordingly, the profitability of your business. To solve this problem, let's first understand what kind of employee can be called involved.

An engaged or engaged employee is of great value to the employer because he/she:

  • committed to the success of the company,
  • Satisfied with my job,
  • sees the prospect of career and personal growth,
  • contributes to the right working environment,
  • contributes to the development of corporate culture.

Research has shown that work-life balance is a key factor influencing employee engagement. After all, a person who does not think about work is unlikely to be able to perform it qualitatively. Therefore, in order to achieve full return on personnel, it is necessary to make them fully focus on the work they do.

This is the task of the – provide an appropriate level of work-life balance for their "customers".

Victor Lipman – a manager with 25 years of experience who writes articles on personnel management for Forbes magazine has the following opinion.

As a rule, people take time off from work infrequently, for example, if they need to go to the doctor, to a matinee with children, and the like. What does the leader think about when he hears such requests? He thinks about how such a day off will affect the results of work.

According to Viktor Lipman, in this situation, the employee must be given flexibility in work.

"For more than twenty years, I have never regretted it. Naturally, any work must be done. If it is not done, you are not fulfilling your duties as a leader."

"Often I was pleasantly surprised by emails that I received after 22:00, i.e. after hours. In these emails, employees notified me that they had completed all the tasks, despite their absence from the office during business hours. time".

The fact is that people appreciate the flexibility in their work and try to do everything so as not to disappoint the person who at the right time came to meet them. They hope that by demonstrating their responsible attitude to work, the manager will meet them halfway next time.

Research confirms the effectiveness of this method. It is also interesting that many employees prefer such flexibility in work to a high salary.

In the end, think about it, if you refuse your employee to attend the same children's party, he will sit all day at the workplace and mentally hum "a Christmas tree was born…" in the forest, and not think about the success of your company. Accordingly, the productivity of such an employee will decrease, say, from 100% to 90% (and this is at best). But will you be satisfied with such performance as a leader? Same thing.

Therefore, learn to prioritize and remember that the opportunity to devote time to your personal life – it is an extremely powerful motivator for an employee. To constantly refuse a person to maintain this balance between work and personal life – not the best way to ensure staff engagement.
